Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

Higher NA brings stacking errors or something, I've never studied this. Only recently I've been encountering such problems. A sunset moth stack turned the lines in the scales into little zig zags. The only attack that I know for this problem is to use focus step sizes that are much smaller than nor...

Re: Nikon TM 5X Objective Extension Distance Help

Honestly speaking, the best way would be the ruler liveview method. I attempted 148mm to get my ITL200 to infinity, ended up being several rotations off anyway.

My favourite is the first one, looks like some kind of ancient symbolism. Trippy!

Re: Peacock feathers

Accidentally clicked an image. Nice, you have a new follower. How did you get backgrounds that are so clean? Incredible work in your gallery. That copepod eggsack, simply amazing. The 1-65535mm Canon lens (according to exif) is sure outstanding... haha. Your exif indicates a Sony a9. That's a very o...

Going to get some gear necessary to deal with life things... after this virus stuff settles.
Meanwhile I'll have some fun playing with these slides!

Re: Two days of pain

It sure looks like a nice crystal specimen at this kind of mag... ouch.
Nice photo, and I wish a swift recovery!

Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

I checked a few reviews, and the concern about flocking fibers coming off is real, especially with a new-bought adapter. This applies only to the latest generation of Metabones adapters. I have a few second-hand older ones that are painted but not flocked, as well as a couple of flocked ones. In to...

Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

You say you can't think of a scenario where a longer tube lens would be useful, but at the same time you note that a 200mm tube lens often gives poor corners on FF. The problem you note about edge quality is exactl ythe scenario that longer focal length tube lenses will fix for you. As you know, if...

Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

Alright, several things here... I personally haven't found any need to push magnifications using longer telephotos. With a 400, the magnification is doubled and NA remains the same. What objective are you going to couple it with? I can't think of too many beneficial scenarios I'm afraid. Perhaps the...

Re: Diatom arrangement at 20x

Lovely shots and arrangements! It is frustrating to lose diffraction colours at higher N.A. I experimented with taking hi-res and low-res images of the same FoV, then use the lo-res one to provide "hue" and the hires for "luminance" (changing layer blend type in HSL mode instead of RGB). There can ...

Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

For 5x it should be fine, but at higher mag, the a7r's shutter shock issues might render images blurred. The A7R3 A7R4 have no problem with shutter shock since they offer electronic shutter. Yeah I understand, I was specifically referring to the a7R. I'll check the Novoflex. It's about twice the co...

Re: Sony A7R with microscope lens

For 5x it should be fine, but at higher mag, the a7r's shutter shock issues might render images blurred. I would recommend a M42 tube setup (offered by Wemacro) combined with the Carman Haas clone itl200, wemacro also offers an adaptor for that lens. The clone itl200 is $220 shipped from Suzhou, Chi...

Diatom arrangement at 20x

20x objective arrived! The arrangement now perfectly covered full frame. Re: Paracetamol XPL

I like it! is this with or without coverslip? I notice theres some dark spots on the right side, is that dust on your camera/optics or dust on the crystals? When making crystal melts or solutions I really try to filter them thru coffee filter and make sure no dust lands on the slide when crystalliz...
