So I’m sure what you’re all saying. . . What exactly is off-axis loading (as it applies to the StackShot)?

Thanks for putting up with my newbie ignorance! You all are/have been so helpful!

StackShot Positioning

I have the basic 100-mm StackShot and will be using either a 100 mm macro lens or the ME-65 lens on a 5d mark iii. I'd be surprised if any of my subjects are ever over 2 cm deep. With that setup, to minimize any sort of wobble or torque on the rails, is there an optimum area I should use? By that I ...

Thanks, Rik. I'll do that. Your directions are very clear.

I've read about backlash, but was never quite sure about what it meant.

StackShot and Bugslabber

This forum is a wealth of information. I just tried my first sub-stack with Bugslabber, and it's fantastic. So much better for editing! One StackShot question. I've been using the auto-distance mode, where I mark the start and end points. I always mark it a little farther on either end than I think ...

Poor connection is “fixed” with pliers. Yay!

Mike, if this ends up coming loose, I’ll try your fix.

Thanks, mawyatt and Rik. 1. That's good information. I'll start with 70 percent. Never would have thought about short-wavelength blue colors, but that makes sense. 2. Yes, it's a phono plug with no slits. I'll very carefully do a slight deform. I'd been wondering if that would be okay. Linda 8)

Two Stackshot Questions

I've had a chance to run through a few stacks using my new Stackshot, and I'm really loving it. Two questions. 1. To determine the step size, I'm using Table 2-A from Zerenesystems.com. For example, the table shows that with magnification of 1:1, using f5.6, the step should 0.28. Should I set exactl...

New StackShot

After spending hours reading through the forums, I did get a StackShot. I've been through some basic practice scenarios and think this is going to be a fantastic tool for macro. It's obviously high quality. 8)

Linda, welcome aboard! :D I like your composition of this interesting subject. However, it looks to me as if something is very wrong in terms of sharpness. (I've had similar effects in some of my wing-scale images; in such cases, there has been some issue that needed to be corrected.) How are you l...

Have you seen Actias luna and Hyalophora cecropia in your area? Austin area may have quite many interesting beetles too. Cheers, Fan Nice to meet you, zzffn...
