The first time I ever saw the Ballerina illusion I struggled to see anything except clockwise. Now however I can see her going clockwise or counter-clockwise with a small effort to "switch" between perceptions. It helps to look at her outstretched leg and imagine it going "in front - behind - in fro...

Re: Anthidium bee "spines"
Charles, your "embarrassments" are better than anything I've done so far . Oh well, you know what they say about getting to Carnegie Hall...Charles Krebs wrote:This is so horribly photographed that I was initially too embarrassed to post it
You're right though - very interesting!

Large midge?
Hello, This is a disappointing capture, I know - the subject gave me one single attempt before flying away. However, I thought I'd swallow my pride and share anyway. It's on the other side of my bedroom window, backlit by the sun. Perhaps this forum's very knowledgeable membership can tell me what k...

Leads on the Voigtlander 125mm f/2.5 APO (EF mount)?
Hello all, Since learning of the Voigtlander 125mm f/2.5 APO Macro, especially the EF-mount version, I've found myself irrationally drawn to it. Perhaps it is just the frustration of knowing that it cost a mere $550 a scant couple of years ago, and now it goes for $1300 on eBay. Whatever the reason,...

A truly interesting lens, but it is my understanding that most mirror lenses have odd bokeh. A few sample photos I saw indicate that this Tamron doesn't completely escape physics in that regard. But 1:2.5 at 1.1m in such a relatively small lens is pretty great, imagine stalking butterflies with that!

Markus, The "shift" can correct (or distort) perspective without angling the lens - good for photographing tall buildings, for example. The "tilt" is also very special though... like the movements on a view camera, it allows you to change the focal plane. Instead of focus being defined by how far or...

Hello all, & tip for Castel-L macro rail deal(s)
Hello everyone. This is my first post here although I have been lurking for a short while. I am only beginning my foray into macro photography; I may post photos as my macro portfolio expands. I don't know if it would be terribly bad form for my first post to be a deal tip, but I wanted to point out...
