Thanks. Still playing around with the setup. Good luck with getting images of plant pathogenic fungi. We need far better images of micro fungi!

Best lens support system for horizontal setup

I'd like to convert my current setup from vertical to horizontal for a couple of reasons, mainly for ease of manipulating the specimen. What are the easiest/cheapest/best ways of supporting the lens? I have a WeMacro vertical stand and will purchase the kit to change it to horizontal. My setup: Cano...

Thanks for that.

I'll try uploading a new one that I've exported as 1024 pixels and 284kb.

I've used unsharp mask (0.7 radius, 100%). I think it did pull up some more detail.

This is the same setup but with flash set to 1/16. It looks a bit dark to me, but can see more detail.

So I've now got second curtain sync (SCS) working. The Canon Transmitter ST-E3-RT wouldn't allow SCS or even manual mode to work on my Speedlight. So I bought a YongNuo YN622CII transceiver duo and they work well. Things like this in the image below are probably my most challenging subject with lots...

Thanks so much! Are you using flash at the end of an extended exposure (2 seconds?) to be free of shutter vibrations? Try a 4 second exposure without the flash. If there's nowt to see, no worries! No. I haven't tried that yet. Will do. Try turning off the Scale option in Zerene's Setup. The view you...

Hi, After some delay, I've managed to get my system working to a stage where it's looking promising. My setup is: Canon 6D Nikon 200mm Nikkor Ai f/4 tube lens Adaptor 20x Mitutoyo objective (thanks Mike :-) ) Canon 600EXII-RT Speedlight (with tissue paper as diffuser) Canon Speedlight transmitter ST...

These are fantastic! I teach a few lectures in mycology every year. Would you mind if I used one of these images in lectures?

Thanks Pau. Yes the drawing tube is excellent. Takes a bit of getting used to but even with the really nice optics and DIC combined with focus stacking, I still find that a good drawing in certain situations is better. There are some very fine features that the camera just will not capture. Does it ...

Oh yes. The entomopathogenic fungi are fascinating. Also the nematode-trapping fungi and fungi-farming ants. The many and varied interactions between insects and fungi is amazing.

I have noticed a few Frankenscopes around. Good to see older microscopes being repurposed though. While I'm here being silly - "fungal taxonomist" caught my eye too. Obviously not a career choice for Shirley Conran. She thinks life is too short to stuff a mushroom :D  To be fair, fungal taxonom...
