So Lou, when you say "I would like to use through-the-objective UV lighting to excite fluorescence." this gives you much more choice in terms of objective lenses, and you wouldn't need to ultra expensive ones designed for imaging in the UV. As mentioned above the Olympus UV Fl ones are worth lookin...

Their drivers often are switching, so I'm not sure those are flicker free.

Peter Höbel http://www.mikroskopie-ph.de/ occasionally shows UV images of diatoms for increased resolution in the German forum. He uses a 365 nm LED, oblique illumination, a selection of finite objectives and a monochrome C-mount camera. High intensity UV and long aquisition times are quite incompa...

Thanks Klaus. I had seen those UV Lomo objectives. On this forum we've seen a very wide variance in the quality of different Lomo objectives, from "best in class" (3.7x) to unusable. Is there a Lomo UV that is really good? Can really say, I have a few but packed away deeply and I haven't really mad...

Klaus, thanks, I know the Ultrafluar is good, but very expensive. Are the other ones you mentioned really good? For both visible and UV light, or just UV? I would like to use through-the-objective UV lighting to excite fluorescence. And why do so many UV objectives require a coverslip? Doesn't a co...

Don't forget the really excellent full color corrected ZEISS ULTRAFLUAR objectives, which I just happen to have a specific 6x type (a one-off one), but there are others too.. https://www.micro-shop.zeiss.com/en/se/shop/objectives/440013-9902-000/Objective-Ultrafluar-10x-0.2# Zeiss Jena made an UV MI...

I've been looking for a 75PN for a long time, to no avail. It was designed for 1:4/4:1 transfers, so I guess this means printing Super-8 to 35mm or vice-versa, though it has an image circle of 64mm. I would be very curious to know if anyone here has such a beast, or has ever seen or used one. Here ...

I set white balance by matching peaks in the histogram, using the upper limit sliders of a Photoshop "Levels..." adjustment layer. If I'm particularly well organized, I'll do this with a separate gray target image, then apply the same adjustment to other images shot with the same setup. But more co...

Well this is a bit on the scientific side, sheet Mica in polarized UV and visible light, different pol. angles. If interested about the colors and why, I refer to the work of Mr Michel-Levy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarized_light_microscopy#The_Michel-Levy_chart https://a4.pbase.com/o12/08/747...

Thanks, yep indeed they do use this.

Polarization is an effective tool in photography and cross-polarization is well know to allow to suppress shine and reflections from certain surfaces. Here a few tests I have made after having been able to find suitable UV polarizers using a glass vase standing on an aluminum lab jack. Visible light...
