I might be able to help here, grgh, even though I don't really have a clue and have never seen these fellas in real life. It's my belief the couple are at the top of the picture, and to confuse matters they are facing different ways. The female is underneath, antennae going left, almost flattened by...

Took me some time to spot that no.4 was a spider, and not something else! Great stuff as always, Hayath.

Hi Hayath! Not surprised to see you here, and thank you for the comment. French insects are not quite as exciting as yours, however :D

Thanx for the kind comment, Stanier. I've also typically had little success with bee flies before, but found this fellow just after dawn asleep on some valerian, on which it remained for two hours, hoovering up a great deal of breakfast before departing. I do not know if it was wet or tired, but I h...

Thanks for the info, Rik. I wonder how far west that particular species is distributed - nice looking insects!

Been a while.....

I have only just revisited the forums here after a two year absence. Last time I was here I'd developed a macro rig with a Canon S120 Powershot at its core. I do not use the system any more as the camera has died, and instead I now have a Panasonic G6, a GX8 and the P30mm macro lens. I also use a Si...

How brilliant are these? Love the colours, just wonderful. What are the insects in the second photo, please? Is it a type of wasp beetle?

Thank you, Shanas! The little Canon even surprised me this time! Though mebbe more to do with the stacked lens...... it's bizarre how well it all works.

John, I think you'll find you are not alone in spending your spare time looking for little things :D There are other mad people out there too..... I may be one of them.

Lovely photo, too. Tack sharp. I may be a bit jealous.....

I've added a Raynox 250 to the mix now as well, so I now have four fixed focal lengths to play with. First attempts this afternoon in the garden seem to reinforce the fact that this is a great rig to hand-hold, the DOF that the Marumi gives to the Raynox's is still present with the greater magnifica...

If Flickr ever asks me for money I'd probably pay though - I find it far nicer to use than PHBKT ever was. Plus with a bit of luck Flickr will charge a sensible price after seeing the can of worms that has been opened with PHBKT. But I hear you - and thanks for letting me know. I'll see if after an ...
