Just to put in there, with your equipment it looks like you will be working at 1:1 at the most, and really for the majority of subjects you might be working at lower magnification. So the tripod and rail and so on may not be needed all the time if you are just taking single pictures. For that appli...

Out of curiosity: Where do you live? What do you think about the Dodds in your area? Do you see a lot of turnover in Dodd locations? I live in NE Ohio and there are essentially only two sources for serious photographic equipment locally, the various Dodd locations and Pixel Connection out in Avon. ...

Still working on things

I now own a small flash and I am about to head down to Dodds Camera and pick up a Rogue Flash Bender kit. In the meantime a flower I took a shot of a couple of weeks ago and got around to processing it today.

Thanks Mark! The bokeh this lens can create even at F11 is pretty impressive.

I like this one.

I do like a soft image but also sharpness where it counts. F11 and Pixel Shift seems to be a good compromise to get both with the camera and lens.

OK, thanks. There's a discussion starting at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/34009634 that may be helpful. --Rik Thanks Rik, I took a look. I also have Tiffen DFX but I mostly use it for the film effects. I am interested in the old style effects that were used in the early camera and film days...

Three more from Helicon.

I shot these with the aid of a simple household lamp instead of the glaring light in my dining room. The white balance and contrast is 100% better and these three I think are an improvement. I have been trying out my new setup and have to say I absolutely love the Berlebach Tripod and 410 Junior Head! It is like night and day compared to my Sunpak Tripod and head setup. The stack was taken indoors with harsh lighting; It has been raining in Cincinnati and looks like it may be clearing u...

Ballhead

I am going down to Dodd Camera here in Cincinnati tomorrow to look over the Gitzo, Manfrotto, and FLM ballheads they have in stock. The lady I spoke to sounded confident she could get me something for macro that I would like between $200.00 and $300.00. If not, I will order the Arcatech online. I kn...

Thanks Deanimator! Stacking may not be for me but all is not lost. I did find great references to tripods, heads, lighting; along with other equipment and techniques since joining this forum. I wouldn't discount stacking out of hand. With the right combination of hardware and software, you can get ...

I understand by focus stacking you are able to create a sharper looking image from corner to corner and increase the depth of field. That's not quite right either. While focus stacking will make CRITICAL areas sharper, it often introduces artifacts around the periphery. That's why it's recommended ...

The reason I am interested in stacking is due to the promise of less noise. If not for that promise, I would never have considered it. Wait! This comment changes everything. As macro photographers, when we say "stacking," we mean "focus stacking to increase the depth of field (the area in focus)." ...

I don't think I need the best results for pixel peeping. I like full size shots of flowers, leaves, vibrant looking ground cover, and foliage. The most important thing for me concerning stacking is the lack of noise which I detest. Then processing them before and/or after stacking to make sure I ge...
