The stack came out really well, nice pic. The dust mite brings back memories. I had one appear and proceed to trample all over the diatoms I was mounting. Fortunately it was on the keeper slide, not the mount itself. Still a nuisance though as it scattered a lot of diatoms that had been paired by s...

Re: Mite

I once found a mite working a dead beetle I had stored for over a year. It was still moving around. After that, when I would capture a Bumblebee, I would soak it in alcohol to release the mites and let the solution settle down once I had removed the bee. Then with a pipette I would draw some of the...

fly with a microfilm lens

This was a test shot with a minolta microfilm lens and trying to get my lighting better. I was quite pleased with the way it turned out. 70 frames stacked in ZS and all taken on my converted microscope rig. It was a bit of a shock when the dust mite wandered into view, fascinating to watch it scaven...

more extension

Just for fun I tried more extension by attaching a bellows unit giving 350mm. stacked 50 shots in zerene and fiddled around in photoshop. Excuse the dust as this is more of a lens test but although it looks ok to me, how do you more experienced guys feel about the lens? http://www.photomacrography.n...

Rik

Thanks Rik, some good info there. I have some 50 & 80mm enlarger lenses, i could try a stack on those or a 100m macro. It's all worth trying, it's quite nice to experiment and get some results. It does zoom in quite well and hold up. I have a few microfilm lenses that I have collected, mainly Olmpus...

Lou Jost wrote:The internet says that your lens is for 35.5x magnification. From that you can work out the best distance from lens to sensor and lens to subject.
that sounds like a lot more extension to achieve that :?

Canon microfilm lens test

I've been wanting to try a Canon microfilm lens but they are usually quite expensive. I managed to buy a C09 (what ever that means) for £25 on ebay. This is 40 frames on an old 4mm long weevil, lens reversed on 150mm extension. I have no idea what the distance to sensor should be with microfilm lens...

here are my two microscope conversions. The first on was to use microfilm lenses, is a very old unit. The large round part is a dial gauge so i can get even increments. A M42 tube has been bonded on and this is what i have done to the lenses. The second one has been left for microscope objectives. M...

I've been experimenting on the cheap. This Image was taken with a Lomo 8x £7.99 off ebay. The rig is a converted old Vickers microscope that had bit missing, £25 antiques centre. 2x Ikea lights and I can if required get 0.01mm increments. All manual of course but woks ok for me. still working things...

progress, unknown bug

After a lot of reading I have made some progress. This crawled out of some bought flowers one evening, maybe a parasitic wasp? Fuji XT-10 with an old Olympus 4x objective bought for £10 on ebay The images are made up of 40 & 80 stacks put together in Photoshop, 4 LED lights. The camera is mounted on...
