Re: Zerene Stacker Help

Alex, hello and welcome to the forum! I'm Rik Littlefield, the fellow who wrote Zerene Stacker and answers all the emails to support@zerenesystems.com . The problem you're experiencing is so bizarre that I've never seen it before. From what I can see in your screen capture, the things that are getti...

Re: Forum now provides searching by word sequences

Thanks for the kind words. It does seem like a good change, fairly painless so far. There is still a limit on word length. Only words that are 4 characters or longer can be searched for. I'm still exploring whether we can reduce that. The limit is set as a server-wide parameter in the MySQL configur...

Forum now provides searching by word sequences

When using the forum's built-in search facility, it is now possible to specify word sequences by enclosing them in quotes. For example, a search for posts by rjlittlefield, containing diffraction blurring without the quotes, returns 75 replies after this post, but only 52 when quotes are added as in...

Re: Crane fly

Crane fly (Diptera:Tipulidae), very nice. Despite that I now expect them, I'm still always surprised to see those bright green eyes on a fly that is otherwise drab. The green seems to be a specular reflection off the very surface of the eye. The color changes to copper at some angles. See for exampl...

Re: Scorpion fly male - Panorpa communis

RAW looks quite poor before developing For deep stacks I usually shoot JPEG, just to avoid the extra trouble of raw processing. With good flocking & masking, I have no trouble with low contrast. I suspect you're getting veiling glare due to reflections from the sides of your Raynox lens or extensio...

I can't (?) edit the descriptions under the photos, so I can't do that correct.
You should be able to edit your own posts. Look for the "pencil" icon, at the left end of the list of icons, on the right side of the page.

Re: Scorpion fly male - Panorpa communis

Lovely images! I have never seen one of these things in the wild. Nikon CFI Plan Apo 10x/0.45 Infinity. https://www.mjkzz.de/collections/nikon/products/nikon-10x-cfi-plan-achro?variant=36213937012892 That's also a Plan Achro , not a Plan Apo. It's a nice lens -- the first model of infinity 10X I eve...

Re: Mayfly molting from subimago to adult

I expect this is a female of the same species. She turned up on my screen door this afternoon. This is a short studio stack, 4 frames at nominal f/8, 5X, cropped to match the male eyes. Live subject released to go play. https://janrik.net/MiscSubj/2021/MayflyMolting_20210609/PMax-0218-0221.jpg Here ...

Re: Mayfly molting from subimago to adult

Right, the claws of the old skin are not moving on the plastic box. I don't know exactly how they're sticking to it, but there's definitely some weak adhesion there. However, that doesn't affect the aspect that is puzzling me. What's puzzling me is that the adult coming out of the old skin is not to...

Mayfly molting from subimago to adult

https://janrik.net/MiscSubj/2021/MayflyMolting_20210609/MoltAnimation_small.gif There's a backstory, of course. A couple of nights ago, a mayfly landed on my hand while I was standing in my yard doing nothing in particular. When I looked at it, I was surprised to see that it was a relatively large ...

0/-/+ order for focus bracketing

I recently learned from a Zerene Stacker support request that the Panasonic Lumix G9 camera provides a focus bracketing mode that starts in the middle and works its way to both ends, swinging focus in wider and wider intervals as the sequence proceeds. When processed by Zerene Stacker in natural ord...

Re: use Bing to search PMN

The built-in "phpBB native" search facility only does unordered combinations. However, phpBB now supports an alternative search backend, "MySQL fulltext". I have tested that on the demotest forum, and it seems to do what you want. So, I have converted the real forum to use MySQL fulltext search also...

use Bing to search PMN

Summary: for searching photomacrography.net, the best external search engine right now is Bing . Bing's coverage is far better than Google's coverage at this time. The forum's own internal search engine is also quite good. It is at https://photomacrography.net/forum/search.php , reachable through t...

Re: ZS Advanced Interpolators

You're very welcome. It may help also to read the rest of that thread. There's another post a little farther down where I illustrate the ringing effect. I had forgotten about both of these posts (from 2013!). I found them by searching the forum for Zerene advanced interpola* . Other possibly interes...
