- Topic: Line scan sensors - has anybody tried this for macro?

I looked into this in some detail. Line scan cameras are made to sync with a moving conveyor belt. So one would either need to build a motorized stage for the subject, or a motorized stage for the camera. I was thinking of doing it with the camera. Many line scan cameras don't work well at low speed...

Indeed some sort of measuring or inspecting makes sense. The size of the stage, and the apparent low power of the objective suggest it is a machine tool inspection / measuring tool rather than semiconductor. The stage is rather big by macro standards, but I sometimes shoot a small part of a larger t...

cool subject stage of unknown origin
I recently "found" this in a bunch of surplus stuff I had bought a few years ago. I assume it is some sort of an optical inspection rig for something, but I don't know what. I am curious if anybody else knows. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5691_WP_20170814_11_48_57_Pro_cropped_1.jpg ...

Yes, the fact that Teledyne Dalsa, and others, make large line sensors with 16K pixels has definitely driven the creation of new lenses. This is driven by a need in manufacturing industry to do quality inspection on things like circuit boards and LCD displays at high magnification. Most of the line ...

I am not sure what formula is used for the NA - I was just taking the numbers from the brochure. Because of the floating element this may not be something that a standard formula does well. Here is a photo from the front. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5691_rayfact_from_front_1.jpg Yo...

I too use Thorlabs, but it is good to have an alternative. Ebay almost always has 2nd hand optical breadboards, and they are usually just fine. BUT, I did have Ebay purchase for an optical breadboard that must have been used in biology lab for something gross. It stank of what I think must have been...

This has occurred for me with Canon speedlight flashes as well. My conclusion is that they are just not that good at low power settings. Granted that I am typically using 1/64 to 1/32 power. The reason seems to be random. Multiple flashes will tend to average out the variation. Studio flashes (I use...

The first set of tests have gone incredibly well. The lens is essentially perfect at both center and edge of frame from 2X to 5X. No CA, no issues of any sort. I was going to post them but they are really boring, so I am not sure it is worth the trouble. Of course the center and edge of my PhaseOne ...

Rayfact 2x-5x lens tests
I have a Rayfact 2X-5X lens on loan from Tochigi Nikon to test it. Tochigi Nikon is the subsidiary of Nikon that made the legendary Printing Nikkor lenses - and they still sell an updated version of the 105mm and 95mm. Like the SK macro varon lens, it has a floating element which adjusts away aberra...
