Re: Replacement zoom gears for Olympus SZ-40 series dissecting scope
Thanks, for the suggestion. I called a manufacturer of a clone and they also told me that their gears would not be compatible. I decided to just measure the gears and see if I could find similar gears on the internet or elsewhere. My notes are that the horizontal shaft is 6mm in diameter, the gear o...

Replacement zoom gears for Olympus SZ-40 series dissecting scope
The gears which control the zoom on the Olympus SZ-40 series dissecting scopes are "plastic" (nylon?) and are apparently one of the parts on the scopes which tend to give out first. I recently purchased a spare scope only to find out that the gears were broken. I have inquired with several microscop...

Re: Objective Vial for Nikon BD Plan 26mm x 0.75mm
I ordered four objective vials for M26x0.706 thread on April 13. They arrived yesterday (April 29). I ordered 105mm height vials from AliExpress. I am largely unfamiliar with their website, but it looks like they host sales sites for other companies. The company offering these vials appears to be Am...

Re: Objective Vial for Nikon BD Plan 26mm x 0.75mm
Thanks,
That was what I suspected. After I posted I looked at the RAFCAMERA website just to see how he handled M26 thread sizes and he indicated his aluminum adaptors fit both threads. I think I will order some M26 plastic vials.

Objective Vial for Nikon BD Plan 26mm x 0.75mm
I am just wondering how people are storing their Nikon 26mm x 0.75mm objectives such as the BD Plans. I have purchased a few. One arrived with a cap, otherwise they arrive with a bit of lenses paper in a ziplock. I feel I should be putting them into a vial but the only 26 mm vials I can find are M26...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x (unused)
Thanks Chris, The information is very much appreciated, as always. I had actually tried to purchase one of the objectives, but couldn't figure out how to complete the transaction (IBAN bank transfer?). I will take that as a sign that I should wait. All interested, The seller indicated he had six and...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x (unused)
Yes, Thank You. I think it may be time to start building a system with infinity objectives. As someone who has rarely ordered internationally, could someone tell me if I should be concerned about having one of these shipped to the USA. Will I likely encounter significant import fees or other surpris...

Re: Advice on 20x finite objective
Thank you for the discussion. I was about to purchase ELWD version of the 20x and the 40x BD Plans. I now think I may try the regular versions first to see if they work for me. I don't yet have a particular subject in mind. I assume the barrel easily screws off and that doesn't make the optics signi...

Re: Commercially available LED lighting for reflected light
Thanks guys, I have been trying to stay with something which has a color temperature around 5900. I had been looking at this model https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Halo-9W-C-Gooseneck-Diffusion/dp/B01FDD79AW/ref=psdc_1063292_t1_B08DNC544K I think I will order one to try it out. I think I will also order...

Commercially available LED lighting for reflected light
As someone who is starting out in microphotography, I am still learning - often the hard way - that I did way too little pre-planning when it comes to lighting. I actually started out using light panels in my microphotography before quickly transitioning to a flash. I see many people are building th...

Re: Light Source for BH2 BHTU
Thanks guys. I guess I just had a bit of panic when I realized my lighting options were reduced. It sounds like you are both pleased with the BHTU, so I will resume my plans to use that scope as my foundation. The scope I acquired came with a trifocal head. Seta666, It would be interesting to see ho...

Light Source for BH2 BHTU
I am getting started in photomicroscopy in somewhat of a three pronged approach as one principle interest is photographing lichens and I was trying to better learn them at the same time - I seem to have forgotten everything I have previously known about the group. Anyhow, I ordered a BH2 -T microsco...

Re: First few days of micro
I have continued to play around with software settings (primarily on stacking software, not so much on sharpening). I have photographed a few additional subjects, but have not yet made it to any invertebrates. One of my biggest challenges was getting the shutter to trigger consistently when using Ze...

Re: First few days of micro
Thanks again. I think I have considerable experimenting to do. I really appreciate the comment about the slider probably being too high, but the base images probably being fine. It really helps me know where to exert my efforts.
