Rather than using a paint, try using an ink. -- Try inking the clip with a black sharpie.

What should be taught in a Macro Photography class?

I have been tasked to set up a class on macro and close up photography, and I am interested if anyone has suggestions on specific things that should be taught and things that might be optional. What would YOU include in a macro class? If you took a basic class on Macro and close photography what wou...

Macro rail angle to specimen

Is there any issue shooting a specimen with the angle of the focal plane not at 90 deg to the travel of the micro rail? I regularly take my camera off my rail to shoot other things with, and when I put it back on the rail I have been tying a piece of sting to the camera which I pull towards the spec...

Cable Management suggestions

HELP --- I have a Stackshot, three flashes, three LED lights, A CamRanger and associated hub, as well as a StopShot and all of its cables, external camera triggers, and battery chargers. I had seen a post on mounting small insects to slide glass, and think that may be your solution here. Holding the slides vertical after mounting and using a small enough dab of mounting medium so that the specimen covers it.

Overlap of stacked images

If a stacking calculator determines that the step size should be for example .05mm, is there any benefit to utilizing a smaller step size --for example .03mm and having greater "overlap" of the dof between images? Would there be a benefit to using a smaller stack size for a portion of the image that...

Let's talk Tripods

I am in the market for a new tripod. I may be using it with a stackshot, but I know it's at least going to have a large Canon with an MPE65 on it, so there is a lot of camera to deal with. I mainly take botanical pictures. I do have a manfrotto 410 head to slap on it but will take suggestions on hea...

I just received my copy of Savazzi's book... While this book is a few years old at this point (2011), this is a massive trove of information. I have been sitting at work on a rainy day here and for the past few hours since the mail came, I have learned a dozen things and enhanced understanding of a ...

I have seen, but not used, another method... that was to glue the ant to a cover slip and shoot through that. I think the main thing was to hide the glue spots on the back side of the insect.

can you lay out how you are doing the multiple stacks?-- are these x-y rather than on a z axis?-- I am confused on the multiple stack idea here.
