You don't see the mucus layer. Just indirectly because of the bacteria. N. delicatula is officially known to be the only Nuclearia with multiple nuclei. But that assumption is wrong. Nice. It looks like a vannellid ameba (genus Vannella or close). These amoebae are known to be able to project coiled pseudopodia. Look here for an extreme example (last image on that page): http://penard.de/Explorer/Amoebozoa/Dis ... abellinia/
