You don't see the mucus layer. Just indirectly because of the bacteria. N. delicatula is officially known to be the only Nuclearia with multiple nuclei. But that assumption is wrong. I had a Nuclearia in culture that was definitely not N. delicatula which had sometimes up to three nuclei. As Nuclear...

Hi Carlos,

In the first image you can see, indirectly, the mucus sheath. The little dots are bacteria that live in the outer perimeter of the mucus sheath.

Every visual identification of Nuclearia to the species level is dubious.

Hi Carlos,

Why do you think it may be N. delicatula?

Carlos,

When a full fed Leptophrys vorax amoeba encysts to digest, most often it devides in the cyst into 2-4 new cells. The new trophozoites maybe quite small. Your baby has eaten something already but is still small.

Your ID is correct.

Nice. It looks like a vannellid ameba (genus Vannella or close). These amoebae are known to be able to project coiled pseudopodia. Look here for an extreme example (last image on that page): http://penard.de/Explorer/Amoebozoa/Dis ... abellinia/

The first image is a testate amoeba, but there is too little information to identify it. The second image is indeed A. turfacea.
