Daniel, Quoting a seven-year-old post : "As I purchased them, the Noga gauge stands each came with a tip designed for holding a gauge used by machinists but of little use in my application. However, unscrewing this tip revealed a hole with M6 threads. Inserting an M6 to 1/4-20" thread adapter gave ...

Looking for Thread Adapters

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a specific type of thread adapter.: M6 to 1/4'' male to male, M4 to 1/4'' would do, but I prefer the former. This is a weird thing to ask for, as two different screw standards exist here. I looked all over the web and did find a site offering the adapter, but unfortunate...

Best place would be either https://www.edmundoptics.com/ or https://www.thorlabs.com/index.cfm Thorlabs offers one of the best in class honeycomb breadboards, the Nexus breadboard, which I stand by and highly recommend -- if one can justify the cost. Even their aluminium breadboards are rather expen...

Daniel, have you had a chance to do that test I suggested HERE (previous page of this topic), checking for apparent motion of features inside the crystal? --Rik Hey Rik! I followed the steps you provided and the checked the "Show as Adjusted" box, scrolled through the entire stack with arrow keys a...

Daniel, have you had a chance to do that test I suggested HERE (previous page of this topic), checking for apparent motion of features inside the crystal? --Rik Yep, surely! It will probably have to be next week though. I was silly enough to run through the rain and not shower afterwards, now I hav...

Awesome video Peter! Yep, I think diffusion is important in my case as well. My post pretty much illustrates a lot of rookie mistakes :P It's a combination of different problems! I have some more crystals coming in this month, worth to try some of the mentioned diffusion methods. This Herk is too bi...

My 85mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor PC-E does have an effective aperture at different focus distances, I think I pointed it out somewhere above -- I could be wrong. This means the iris mechanism effectively moves with focusing I guess, which could lead to some issues. Perhaps I'll try with PN, configure it f...

I tried Dmap with my 124 image stack, and the results are actually way better! The texture in the herk can be seen easily. Smudging still exists, but at this point, it's just my carpet. I'm going to get another stack going tomorrow, with various diffusers I have. http://www.photomacrography.net/foru...

Exposure settings: Shutter speed was 1/250, mirror-lockup mode, and electronic shutter enabled. Aperture was at f/8. Equivalent to 9-9.5, since it's a macro lens. I went 16 and 22, results were a bit unsatisfactory. I find the optimum to be around f/8. I should try tetherting and other methods menti...

Thanks! Diffusion! Yes, I should try more diffusion. My strobes were not diffused at all, the only diffusion is that little lighttent. My stacking method is using a rail, which I forgot to mention. The focus ring of the lens is untouched. I use an RRS macro rail. I should have included a photo of my...

Need help/tips/recommendations for photographing crystals

Hello everyone! Yesterday was my 23rd birthday and the Herkimer Diamond I purchased on Ebay 2 weeks ago finally arrived, shipped from the US! I live in Australia. I arranged my usual setup for photographing crystals, and encountered some problems when stacking the final results. I made 3 attempts an...
