Interesting! I was in New Jersey a few years ago, and can relate that Spotted Lantern flies are all too common now.

An interesting find. Our giant Ichneumons ( Megarhyssa ) will drill deep into decaying wood to parasitize wood boring sawfly larvae. I had read that the Ichneumons detect the presence of their host by sniffing out a fungus that grows in wood that has sawfly larvae. Now slime molds are NOT fungi, but...

Very interesting! The iris might have an epithelium that develops along with the skin outside of the eye. That could be why the stripe lines up.

A good series! All of this is very familiar to me, with my former life doing research on Drosophila development. Many, many hours at the dissecting microscope and microscope. Those were good times, though.
