I too am very sad of this news. I would always give his many posts a priority look, since they were always to exacting and good.

Re: Reversed lenses--usefulness of electrical contacts to control aperture?
That is pretty cool! There is the Neewer NW-C-UP electronic reversing ring that works on Canon EF lenses. I have it and it's been fun but I don't take it out much. It can help to get good images with the right lenses: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhallm ... 592459772/

I have seen him before on YouTube, and he is remarkable. I think the method involves sort of leaning on the edge of the diffuser for stability, and gently pressing forward as you stack.

Re: A Few Carnivorous Plants
Very interesting! Perhaps in rainy places, pitcher plants have a lid on their trap to keep out the rain. The species near me does not have that.
I did not know that thing about Jack in the pulpit.

Interesting. There are other mechanisms that insects use to hook the fore- and hind wings together.

Very cool! I wonder if the lighter spots are secondary light receptors, like insect ocelli.

Re: Hungry beetles munching on pollen (GIFs)
Very nice.
I would like to do more gif animations, but just a couple frames can balloon to an overly large file size that goes over the limit here. What is the trick?
