So I have given absolutely no thought about this before, but why should that stop me? :D
One thing is if you could put tiny but realistic human figures into this scene, our minds' eye might try to make it look like a giant structure. I have another thought, but I will leave the fun for others.

A nice set. I can almost visualise poking around, seeing what's there, and contentedly taking shots like this myself. The group together bring that sort of casual "macro trip" to mind. I had come across some leaves that were neatly woven together to form an enclosed space. Inside was this nursery web spider ( Pisaurina mira ) with her egg sac. It depends for me too. Interesting that the white background lighting really brings out the fine textures on the beetle. More so than the black background lighting. Besides black or white there are other colors. I sometimes make off with free paint swatches from hardware stores, and those can be goo...

That's pretty cool! I recognize the pollen grains in #4 but don't remember exactly the kind. Pine pollen? Not sure.
But these are why we need cilia and mucous in our respiratory system -- its to pump stuff like this out of our lungs.

Very interesting find! There are ants that will nest in hollowed twigs or rolled leaves. This seems similar.

The extra item is likely the cast skin of an aphid, or something related.
