Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

The important thing here is the proven importance (now proven again) of maintaining the floating elements in their correct position for the desired magnification. This is a very general rule.

Wonderful evocative pictures, as always. The feeding leech is especially remarkable! I've never seen that.

Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE

You probably know this, but be aware that optimization is not a simple process. The 85MV (and I presume also the FL0530) changes focal length as the CAS ring is adjusted. Thus if you simply adjust for maximum sharpness, you may just be optimizing critical focus. You need to perform something simila...

Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE

my approach is to set up the subject and adjust the ring by eye at 100% live on the camera for maximum sharpness (actually I use a display monitor) without regard to the magnification scale. That is also my approach, and the recommended approach for medium format photographic lenses with floating e...

Re: Raynox DCR-5320 as tube lens - experiences and comparisons?

I have made those comparisons shorty after Nathan published his tests on this forum, but it may take me a while to search for them on my old hard drives...currently for full frame my favorite 200mm tube lens is the Mamiya 200mm Apo for 6x4.5 and my favorite 250mm tube lens for FF is the Mamiya 250m...

Re: Loss of Robert OToole

Oh noooooo.....this is heartbreaking news. He was such a generous and thoughtful person, and devoted a huge amount of time to us on this forum. He was always open-minded and deeply interested in new photographic techniques. Besides doing the best macro tests on the internet, he was himself a very ar...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

"Absolutely, macro lens set at minimal extension, i,e. Infinity focus when mounted on the bellows which also at minimal extension. Thank You Rik for suggesting the correct term “infinity focus” …." Yes, and that is the reason I made my comments about floating elements being out of place. The results...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

I will consider you suggestion of using medium format bellows with reverse mounting of macro lens. Actually I was suggesting the medium or large format bellows with the lens mounted inside it IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION, not reversed, with the bellows extension set to maintain the correct flange-to-se...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Using repurposed Nikon Multiphot base for slide copying with Nikon Z6II attached to Nikon bellows PB-4, Micro Nikkor 60 mm 2.8 (got this at KEH @ $140) and flat LED light source (Apurture Amaran at 6000 k). Both slide holder and macro lens hood 3D printed. The setup yielded very good quality digita...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

I was hoping that Sigma had their 50mm 1:1 macro in a M42 version but it seems this never happened Well, Sigma got 55mm macro lens with M42 mount - old (XQ line), somewhat rare, nothing special optically. Any special need requiring M42? For something cheap and shareable with other people I would go...

One drawback of LEDs that I have been noticing is banding at high shutter speeds (1/500 and faster).

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

I would like to ask a question similar to the the topic of the thread opener. For myself I also use macro lenses dedicated to my Sony camera for digitizing slides what works really well. At my Foto-Club at the University of Stuttgart there are lots of younger people who like to shoot film and we ar...

Beautiful pictures, and it is good to see you posting again! Any idea of the species of Pristimantis being eaten by the tarantula?
