Re: Sea Urchin Spines SEM
Pau,
Good idea, it would be tricky yes but layering or using just the color channel over the sem image could work, no idea how to do it. Not good at photoshop or similar, but I'm realizing its something I need to learn.

Re: Sea Urchin Spines SEM
Hi Rik these were dehydrated in ethanol, dried further with supercritical CO2 (critical point drying) and sputter coated with a Gold/Palladium alloy.
They were the typical purple and white urchin color before sample prep. Still trying to figure out how to add the color back in...

Re: Sea Urchin Spines SEM
Thanks! I realize now I should clarify: top photo shows the spines as found, the 2nd pic is a spine cross section ( seen out of focus in top left of first pic)

Re: Rotifer: Squatinella mutica
i honestly think someone must have seen rotifers and used them as the inspiration for many of the evil flying squid robots in the Matrix movies. Great shots.

Diatom and Integrated Circuit
Both samples cleaned with sulfuric acid. Diatom imaged on olympus bh2 at 200x DIC, Circuit imaged on Zeiss Photomicroscope 200x INKO. Both about 10 image stacks, sharpened in gimp.

Marine Diatom ID 4000x
Hi can anyone ID this diatom found in filtered seawater? Sample collected off Malibu CA. Unfortunatley the filter used did not allow for good digital images. Therefore this was taken directly from the SEM screen with phone camera. Thanks!
