Lovely photos and an interesting subject.
Any speculation as to what biological role the bump-and-spine structures have? Defence would seem the obvious starting point for anything spiky but they seem relatively small.

Re: Optiphot special nosepiece
The angled objectives remind me of a "light-sheet" microscope I have. Your listing could be for a similar application.. Ichty provided some useful links below. Most of the technical information is in German. https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=38886&p=244116#p244116 I've yet ...

The Loctite 638 worked like a dream. Amazing stuff. I would recommend taking a lot of care removing any excess adhesive from between the teeth as some of this was still liquid after 24 hours (I used a hypodermic needle and tissue under a stereo). If this unreacted adhesive was reassembled with other...

Gear repair
Does any one have a suggestions on the best way to make these two parts one functioning part again? As you might have guessed - internal gear from a focus drive (Mitutuyo FS-60). I can't tell exactly how it was joined in the first place but possibly just pressed together somehow (these two-part gear...

Specifically, this is what I am struggling with if anyone has any experience/suggestions. Top view. I am trying to remove this black part (which accepts the microscope head). There are three small screws shown on top which are easy to remove. However, the central "barrel" is also connected to a lowe...

Service Manual for Meiji ML2000?
Does anyone know where I can find one of these?
Search engines have so far failed me.
Thanks,
John

I can't help with the specific Labophot question but if you are going to go for a full-strength 100x Apo objective (and why wouldn't you) then Nikon do make up to 1.4 N.A. Apo condensers (certainly for Optiphot and Eclipse series). I believe that for maxium performance, these should also be immersio...

Great images Leonard. What lens/set up did you use to take these? For anyone having a go at culturing, I picked up a couple of tips that might help... - Instead of petri dishes, plastic fruit containers without holes (like those for strawberries) are a good alternative to petri dishes - cheaper, sli...

I have (somewhere) a Unilink (I think it's called) which Brunel used to sell - maybe they still do. It mounts on an eyepiece. I also have a Nikon camera Coolpix P5000 to go with it. You can have both for a very reasonable price. PM me if interested. It's a basic set up but works pretty well and prob...

These rubber strap pipe wrenches are very good for removing stuck objectives (other brands are available. Mini or"baby" wrenches are the right size for objectives) https://www.amazon.co.uk/BOA-11022-Baby-Soft-Grip/dp/B002HMRU34/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=pipe+wrench+rubber&qid=1560192729&s=gateway&sr=8-14...
