Re: Good rail for 50x

Thanks, that's really good to know. I will aim for good light. My specimens shrivel up really quickly under lights, so a very little light is what I need. :-)

Re: Good rail for 50x

Yes I see what you mean. I think it might be better to buy it from mjkzz in my case though, because it comes with the coding all done, and I am quite short of time.

Re: Good rail for 50x

I only worry a bit that the subject would wobble when the rail moves.

I think I am going to buy one of these rails and try it. I have put my Canon 65mm MP-E and some other bits on ebay, and if they sell I will buy the rail.

Re: Good rail for 50x

I think it would be okay to keep the lights still, because my subject is only a single cell, and I put a polystyrene cup over it and then flash two old skool canon camera flashes at it from a foot away. I'd only be taking 3 or four frames with about a micron between frames, so I think the light woul...

Re: Good rail for 50x

Gosh, that's a lot of kit. Very impressive.

My subject is just the weight of about 1/4 tsp of sugar. I do wonder if I could just put it on the carriage of the rail, and save all the business of steadying the heavy camera on the rail. I suppose the only way to find out is to try.

Re: Good rail for 50x

Yes I see what you mean.

Do you think it would work if I put the specimen on the rail instead of the camera, or does it tend to wobble?

Re: Good rail for 50x

That's brilliant! I wouldn't know where to start to do that.

Re: Good rail for 50x

Sorry I missed those last few messages.

I don't see any of those THK KR2001B rails online, but I will hunt.

Re: Good rail for 50x

Do you think it would be better if I had a vertical system? I had problems with my old rail jumping and making blurred lines in the picture where the jump had happened. I see that MJKZZ sell a stand to make the rail vertical and I wondered if that is something I should be thinking about. https://www...

Re: Good rail for 50x

Thank you, yes I see what you mean. That really would be necessary for such a heavy lens. I'll have a think about that.

Re: Good rail for 50x

Would it be okay to ask what sort of extra components you use to achieve stability? I had my last rail bolted to a big piece of wooden kitchen worktop, but I don't have an air table. The main thing I did was to fix both the camera and the lens to the plate it was sitting on, so that it didn't rock w...

Canon MP-E 65mm F/2.8 Lens, mint condition, used only a few times.

Hi, I am selling this because I bought it and then almost immediately switched to using microscope objectives. My subjects were too small for this lens. It is in mint condition and has been used only about 5 times. Asking £600. Free postage within the UK or collection from Cambridge. Thanks, Jennife...

Re: Good rail for 50x

Thanks, that's really good to know.

Do you just mount the base of the camera directly onto the carriage of the rail?

On my last system I mounted a steel plate onto the carriage and then supported the body of the camera and the lens on the steel plate for greater stability.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Re: Good rail for 50x

I worked out that this is where it would be bought from in Europe. They don't specify which rail this is, but I will ask.

Re: Good rail for 50x

Hi, I was going to use it horizontally. I'm trying to continue the photography series on this page below, but to go a bit smaller: http://chlorophyllosophyimages.blogspot.com/2016/12/j-deegan-images.html I had a home-built rail but it broke. Do you think the rails from that website would be good? Th...
