Cheers for the info Rik, It answers a lot of questions I had, I'll try a few things out next time I manage to get something interesting to photograph. There's a macro photographer in Scotland called Iain Lawrie who somehow manages to get 50-60 shots to stack hand held using natural light of live sub...

Thanks for the replies, Did not think of trying to photograph a spider in the dark. The jumping spiders I've tried to take photo's of dont react too much to the flash going off (which is good) but still move about. I might try the tricking them into night mode or maybe its because they cant see me m...

Getting enough shots for a large stack with live subjects

Hi folks, I've been trying a bit of macro work and have got some shots I'm happy with but they dont even come close to the standard of some of the amazing shots I've seen other macro photographers do. I'd like to improve my ability to get better shots (and more shots) to use for stacking. A few of m...

Cheers for the reply, Its nice to know what "input" settings you have for taking your stacks. I prefer if I can use natural daylight rather than flash if I can. I was trying too hard to get shots up around F22 I then opened things up to F16-F14 but never tried taking a stack at 2.8! I must try next ...

Thanks for the reply, I tried the extension tubes on my sigma lens and opened up the aperture a bit wider than usual and I was happy with the results. Takes a bit of getting used to with loosing the working distance once the tubes go on. Getting nicer results now at F16, 1/200, ISO400 and the flash ...

Introduction (New from Ireland)

Hi folks, Greetings from Ireland. I'm new to Macro photography and so far have been reading bits and pieces in different forums and lurking on flicker. I used to develop my own B&W stuff myself as a teenager in the days of film as a hobby. Roll on years later and into my late 30's and when it came u...
