Trouble shooting butterfly wing scales

This photo is not good but it displays the lighting trouble I am having. In order to not overexpose the light scales everything else is very underexposed. I still get light haloing around some of the light scales. I have tried adjusting the flash intensity and direction, as well as turning off the c...

I agree it does look dark.
The flash has 8 power levels, I am using the 6th level, so I do have room to go up. The snoot is a box (white inside) with a layer of vellum paper for diffusion. I would very much appreciate the post-processing tips.
Thank you

Rik Thank you for responding to my request for feedback. I apologize for posting in the wrong forum, I will be more cognizant in the future. I just wanted to respond to you with some changes that I made, hopefully improving the outcome. The hot pixel trails are still present, but not quite as bad. 1...

Realativly new to microphotography, looking for feedback.

Thank you for this forum, it has been both informative and interesting to read the various posts out there. Today I am looking for some input into what are some positive things I am doing...as well as the negatives, and how to fix them. I am curious what the little white lines all over the photo. Is...

Thank you for pointing out the adapter issue, I think someone else did also and I glossed over it in my concern over this collar. I have the 200mm lens tube. I actually did read that Nikon had deviated from the RMS thread size, I just mentally back-burnered this small piece of data :) I finally got ...

I already have the RMS mount, it came with another objective, so I thought I would just use it. That being said, if your option would let me use the lens with the black collar as it is right now.....I would definitely use it. For the earlier post of acetyl acetate.... thank you for the assist, but i...

How to remove a "Collar?" from an objective?

I am trying to remove a "Collar?" from an objective? to replace it with a RMS to Nikon Microscope Objective Adapter For Micro Photography. The "collar" is refusing to unscrew. Does anyone have any ideas on how to separate the objective from the "collar"? http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix...
