"Live animals immobilized with Co2 "

That sounds interesting. Would you mind going through how you do that?

Congratulations on making the front page. It is indeed a beautyful picture - very well done.
The picture on the front page has been turned 90 degrees. That is a pity - it looks wrong.

A good way to avoid reflections in the glas is using a rubber hood and keep it against the glas. The rubber lets you change the angle of the camera and still seal out the light reflections of a flash or other light sources outside the aquarium.

Lighting for MP-E

Haven't posted here for a while, nor done much macroshooting, but now I finally bit the bullet and bought the Canon MP-E 65mm I have been wanting for so long. I have a Yongnuo ring flash that I never really liked and came up with this solution for mounting it above the lens: http://www.photomacrogra...

Every time I look at your work I am amazed. A 61 frame handheld stack in natural light where I might be able to do one or two frames with flash! I just don't understand how you do it. But I enjoy looking at your pictures!

Do you drive a car? Ever found a dead insect on the front of it? Is there a difference between killing a moskito to photograph it or killing it because it is sucking your blood? I would love to be able to do a 100 frame stack of a live insect, but it is way beyond my capability. So I sometimes kill ...

Beware that the Kenko tubes may cause vignetting. That was the case for me with raynox lenses on the full frame Eos 6D. A set of cheap non-automatic tubes fixed that.

Welcome to the forum. People here are indeed very helpful. Chris does some very good work with his fancy equipment, but it does not have to be this expensive. People have been getting good results also with less expensive equipment. Search these forums for Raynox lenses used as tube lenses for micro...

I agree with Chris - the picture is tecnically well done. Lighting is good and sharpness and transition to out of focus area is well controlled. In my eyes what gives it away as a dead bug is the folded up legs. I find it difficult to pose dead insects to make them look live - legs and antennae tend...

Great pictures. Care to share the lighting setup you use?
Are these taken with the MP-E 65?

Thanks Rik for the information. It figures that I have this brilliant idea - and you have already done it several years ago :D There is a red LED on the 6D that comes on during the exposure. I guess that could be used to trigger the flash if it turns out the timing varies a lot. My rig is controlled...

Not sure, but I think it should work. Why don't you give it at try and report back? :) I am sketching on a circuit that would give a delayed flash triggering. That should allow using flash combined with shutterless operation - given that the room is resonably dark. Something like this: 1. Trigger si...

I think I prefer my "home-made" soft-focus lens instead.
You cannot make a statement like that without telling us what it is.
