focusing on insects
A question I proposed on this site prior to an illness. When setting up to go through a photo stacking exercise and you have an insect ( like most) that has undulating or bigger body than a head how do you keep all the body parts in focus as you move forward. If I take a strarting focus on say the b...

Which end of an insect etc to start stacking at.
My query concerns for example the taking iof stacked photos of say a beetle which generally has a body much bigger than its head. When beginning my stack for example if the beetle is side on the camera lens sees at one end a big structure and at the other end a small head. I seem to have trouble kno...

Thanks Rik, well I deviated somewhat with respect to illumination. The top one was with flash and 5 sec delay. The next 3 were done with Jansjo lighting 1 each side and 2 1/2 sec delay . Did this because I ran out of batteries for the flash and decided to check the results again with the Jansjo ligh...

Flash units for Micro work
Am using a D750 Nikon. Have an SB-700 unit but need two more to create all round lighting. Ideas ? Not expensive flash units and how would I set all 3 up to fire simultaneously ? I guess they have to be compatible to the D750 or maybe not ? Can someone give me some ideas / thoughts , instruction her...

black spider
Thanks Chris for the comment. I did use a flash SB 700 on hot shoe and diffused. I can use two more flash units to see the difference. I imagine I will have to adjust their output somewhat if using 3 units ? The SB700 was on 1/8 power. I i use 3 units do I specifically need to drop the power of all ...

Black Spider
My first attempt at a black specimen, so questions to pose. Was a 5x attempt, flash 1/8 diffused, delay to shutter. Appears as though maybe too much exposure because of the shiny front on the spider. Are there specific parameters to use if photographing black subjects. Pic attached. Comments please....

Back again after more testing, changing this and that as advised here on the site and especially Rik. New image done at 1/8 flash 10 sec gap, diffused cover on flash. Newly cleaned low pass filter. Much better so lets hear from the experts now as to the directions of my adventures. Cheers hotrodder1...

first macr re done
Hello Mr Rik, thanks for the extension of software. Here is the pixel piece you want. Something else that bothered me was the fuzziness at the far side of the head. In this last stack I kept going in an attempt to get rid of it but did not succeed, what does it represent? Is it simply an area not in...
