Re: Sunlike COB
Saul, Those look very interesting, and a good LED COB for macro use. We've got the LED controllers already developed that work with all sorts of LED COBs at various voltage and current levels, these included. The controllers allow continuous and pulsed (strobe with camera trigger) use and are design...

Re: Battery alternative for WeMacro controller?
30 minutes is too short use IMO. Measure the WeMacro input current under static and dynamic use, this should give a clue if anything's wrong, also note the voltage to the controller when it stops working, and the individual 18650 battery voltages using a good DVM. Make sure your 18650s are fully cha...

Re: Battery alternative for WeMacro controller?
We have the WeMacro setup and used it often in the past, but later this was replaced with a custom rail and custom controller based upon the THK rails and Trinamic chips as our requirements moved to more precision use. Recall doing some test with the WeMacro and supplied battery pack long ago and do...

Re: Smithsonian Magazine on Snowflake Photography
The controller we developed awhile back can handle ~100us at up to 10A, although the LED COB we presently have can't handle that high a peak current. Considering a design for 10us at >20A capability which doesn't require a high voltage external power supply. Would operate from any 12~36VDC input and...

Re: Smithsonian Magazine on Snowflake Photography
Charles, Thanks for the information. Kind of what I thought, these are industrial units intended for those type applications and thus somewhat expensive for limited use I had in mind. I've got some core LED strobe controller electronic designs completed, PCB designed, tested and utilized but not at ...

Re: WeMacro Stand on Steroids
as long as you choose the 8mm groove/nut parts from different suppliers should fit together. But instead of angle brackets I would use those automatic fasteners because those tighten the two profiles together :D , the angle clamps just fix the in the position not pressfit between the two parts :| I...

Re: WeMacro Stand on Steroids
Thanks for the reply and directions. The Misumi website even allows me to specify my own bracket ... which opens up many more possibilities, together with the possibilities available for aluminum extrusions. Adding Wemacro Vertical Stand to my setup, for now, is still an open problem but now full o...

Re: WeMacro Stand on Steroids
Hi Carlos, Yes these are the same that comes with the WeMacro kit, we also ordered some from 80/20 or Misumi but can't remember which nor the details. Make sure you get the one that support the M8 bolts and the proper M8 "T" nuts. If you haven't ordered the WeMacro kit yet, William can provide these...

Re: My setup - need some lighting advice
If you need optical power from an LED, we did some work with the Godox 150 last year. https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=41353&hilit=Godox+LED Or higher power LED COBs. https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=40999&hilit=Godox+LED&start=45 Anyway, think t...

Re: Interchangeability of stepper motors?
One thing not mentioned with interchanging stepper motors is the internal resistance as related to operating current. With a modest amount of current a stepper motor with a higher internal resistance can become quite hot if not operated in a dissipation efficient mode. If the controller utilized all...

Re: My setup - need some lighting advice
You can easily modify the Jansjo LED lights as shown below and use 5000K LED COBs with higher output. If you don't want to build a custom LED controller, you could use a standard power supply like shown in your setup image but watch the Jansjo head temperature. The custom controller allows continuou...

Re: Newport Damped Optical Posts
I have and use a Thorlabs XT95 based setup Thanks for sharing Mike, makes me wish I had all of these components and could try multiple setups before deciding on one. I'd like to have a vertical-to-horizontal convertible setup and my current one using breadboards is perhaps not best suited for that....

Re: Newport Damped Optical Posts
These iShoot clamps are the best, they can be found on ebay for ~$20. The short 1/4" (or 3/8?) countersunk channels either side of the centre thread look like they could be very useful! I'm always finding it a challenge to get Arca clamps with more than one point of connection that have a hole patt...
