Re: Looking for a new monitor

Owww! My right shoulder is twanging from just *looking* at that picture! Standing up I can understand, but drawing on that monitor from that seated position would have me in a world of permanent hurt in no time. I don't think I could even draw accurately with that arrangement anyway. Not disparaging...

Re: Looking for a new monitor

Thanks, I had the Intuos about 15 years ago. I was looking at this one. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1388044-REG/wacom_dth2420k0_cintiq_pro_24_touch.html -JW: I've used the non-screen Intuos tablets since they were made of stone. The s/w invariably sucks, always did, very clunky. Startup ...

WTB: "broken" X-Rite Colourchecker (edit: found one)

Does anyone have an X-Rite Colourchecker (any model) that is knocked about, maybe grubby and past it's best such that you're ready to replace it? I'd like to buy your old one(s). A good Colourchecker that you don't use much and are willing to part with fairly cheaply would be good as a second prefer...

Re: Coverslip thickness

... Yeah, I buy 'em, but not many of 'em..... When you add on the quartz or fused silica slides it becomes rather pricey. Quartz seems to be a bit less than fused silica, but even so, it's eye-watering. With (potential) consumables like cover slips, you certainly could rack up some serious running ...

Re: Coverslip thickness

Finally, Zeiss. https://www.micro-shop.zeiss.com/en/de/shop/search/Cover%20glasses,%20high%20performance, You'd be counting the coverslips you use since some are more than a dollar each... :? A dollar each - heavenly. My fused silica ones are about 15-20GBP each depending on size. I've had to becom...

Re: Coverslip thickness

Yes, I have the Zeiss high accuracy slips. They only had square ones back when I bought them and I have to cut my own round ones from them (diatom mounts). I got these after a long and frustrating run measuring several batches of normal #1.5 round slips and finding none at exactly 0.17 thick. I stil...

Re: Insect - double mounting

That's a neat trick for extra freedom to position the specimen. I already have ways to tilt, rotate and shift the specimen on the rig, so although I do much the same, I generally just bend the end of the main pin/wire at 90 degrees before or after mounting the specimen. I used to try and impale spec...

Re: Looking for a new monitor

Ta Lou. It's been a long-thought-about upgrade/addition, but now I've finally pressed the button I rather feel I waited too long. I've decided to leave the setup as pictured now, just moving the keyboard in front of the big monitor leaving space on the right for my Intuos tablet. Much easier to use ...

Re: Looking for a new monitor

Confirmed. Happiness is 3840 x 2160. A superb monitor.
The Benq on the left (32") , EIZO on the right (2560x1440 -27")
I'll switch them around for normal use - the Benq is on the left for "easy access" during install/test here...

Re: A7r4 pixel shift. Rather a resolution eye-opener

Must be micro usb as there's no USB-C on A7rii, the first body I used it with. Not there to look, sorry. The IR remote method is better IMO as it leaves the usb port free for power and tethering.

How do you trigger the shutter release on the A7Rm4?
The WeMacro rail controller fires it - either wired, or via IR remote.

Re: Looking for a new monitor

Yayy - hope it it all fires up as expected. Are you getting significantly more oomph with this one? This morning I was reading reviews on a few forums about the $Eizo CG279X$ with hood and the NEC MultiSync PA271Q 27. The NEC is much cheaper but a few have had trouble with its calibration based on ...

Re: Coverslip thickness

Simplifying, it mainly depends on the N.A. of the objectives you're using, higher N.A. requires more accuracy. Higher quality (e.g. planapo vs achromat) increases the "visibility" of issues caused by incorrect coverslip thickness. You won't really notice a variation of +/- 0.02, or even more with N....

Re: Looking for a new monitor

I currently use a 27" Eizo monitor for photo editing and an old Dell thingy as a second screen, usually turned off. I concentrate better with only one screen. Or should I say, I concentrate less poorly. However, I'm looking for a big screen, 4k resolution, mainly for displaying finished images and p...
