Skittish little buggers, ain't they? At first I despaired of getting a closeup, but I observed where they were hanging around before I spooked them, then plopped down and waited. Thanks, Carmen. The moth was shot with a Canon G15, the others with a G15 with Raynox 250 closeup lens attached. Generally f7.1 or f8, 1/100 to 1/400, ISO 640 to 1000. The dragonfly is actually a damselfly -- the differences are described here . But species ID is not my strong suit, and I'm expectin...

Thanks, y'all. I was surprised to see the yellow tiger stripes in the photos -- the bugs look dark grey to the naked eye and rarely stay still enough to see clearly. I didn't sit -- more of a stalk and squat trying unsuccessfully to keep my butt dry. It only takes a minute for the striders to become...
