Oil immersion condenser
Hi!
Can anyone tell me when it is appropriate to use oil immersion on the condenser top lens? I guess first of all the condenser must be designed for it, but why don't you always use a oil immersion condenser when you use oil immersion objectives? Wouldn't the resulting image be better?

Reflected light microscopy with DIC using ULWD Neo SPlan?
Hello, I am trying to figure out if I can use my newly bought ULWD 50x Neo SPlan for DIC (NIC). I find prisms designated ULWD50 on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Olympus-DIC-prism-for-ULWD-50x-objective-/191867903402?hash=item2cac37ddaa:g:cmkAAOSweW5VcRCL Can anyone tell if this will work together wi...

Hi Chris, First I want to thank you for the reply on the brass collar issue. The brass piece goes just beyond the screw hole and is probably not broken then. I thought the brass collar should be a full circle that was fastened 180 degrees to the screw hole but it is more like 1/4 circle fastened 90 ...

What screw for the BHMJ focus block?
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could tell me what kind of screw it is that locks the focus block to the pole? I.e. what standard (JIS, DIN...), what thread (lead/pitch) and diameter?
Thank you!
/Henrik

Difference between Neo objectives and others
Hi all, I believe this has been up to discussion before but I'll give it another go :) The difference between the objectives below is just that the first allows both bright and dark field whereas the second is bright field only, otherwise they perform the same, right? 20X ULWD Neo S Plan 20X ULWD M ...

Thanks for your thoughts Charles, Alan and Henry! I think modifying the TR-30 to take a PE photoeypiece would be a to costly and demanding task and therefore I believe Henry's solution is the most likely for me. Henry: Where did you find the adapters in the first picture, the ones that goes together...

U-SPT + Photomicroadapter L
And if I use a U-SPT I also need the Photomicro Adapter L on top of that? And the PAL fits the dovetail on top of the U-SPT but the U-SPT do not fit the head of the BH2, right? And there are no such thing as an adapter between the BH2-TR30 and the U-SPT? Would it be possible to manufacture such an a...

Further questions
Thanks Henry and Charles, I am now a bit less confused! So if I want to use my UMA with the "ordinary" WHK 10X /20 L eyepieces and a suitable NFK photoeypiece the best objectives would be the LWD LBM objectives I guess? But if I go for a UIS-2 I should use non-correction eyepieces and photoeyepieces...

Does BH2-UMA allow modern infinity corrected objetives?
Hi all, I have bought an BH2-UMA vertical illuminator for use with my BH2-BHS. I want to take photos of inclusions in amber and therefore I need objectives that go together with a vertical illuminator but they also must have a pretty long working distance (more than 3 mm). I was thinking of using my...

Amber inclusion photography
Hi all, I would like some tips about what objective to use together with my Olympus BH2 equipped with the UMA-illuminator (that I've bought but not received yet) for taking photos of amber inclusions? I have a Olympus ulwd cd plan 40X objective with correction collar, but is this objective suitable ...

Difficult to get good images with Moticam 5mp, could a DSLR?
Hi all, I have big problems with image quality using Moticam 5mp. Either the light parts of the object and the background are too bright and lack detail or the darker areas are too dark and lack detail. Maybe this has to do with the poor dynamic range of the camera? The pixel pitch is just 2.2 µm co...
