Sea Copepod. 20X Mitutoyo, Sony NEX - 6, wemacro rail. Not sure about what kind of copepod is, I guess it is an Harpacticoid.

Re: Monstrillid copepod
I did a horrible editing work then, thank you for pointing it out. I'm working on a 27" iMac and the editing software I use is Capture One.

Monstrillid copepod
Monstrillid copepods are quite fascinating: adults are just for reproduction and thus they lack mouth nor intestine, only feeding during their larval states parasitizing different groups of marine invertebrates. This was seen as a monstrosity by the zoologist Dwight Dana and that's why he classified...

Re: Benthic diatomeas
You could mount them into a permanent slide. Neutral balsam, or even UV resin will work well enough. You can manipulate the sample with a thin acupuncture needle. Thank you! Could you let me know about neutral balsam or UV resin? I haven't worked with those products so far. Wouldn't I have to do an...

Re: Platynereis dummerilii portraits
I don't think they change color, I would say that they are permanent. Here you have an adult specimen:

Re: Platynereis dummerilii portraits
Interesting question, but I think that no, they are just some kind of pigment spots under the skin. In fact, they change color to white when they are grown up.MarkSturtevant wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 5:46 amVery cool! I wonder if the lighter spots are secondary light receptors, like insect ocelli.

Re: Benthic diatomeas
Thank you all for your comments! Excellent. I would love to have a slide of these. They are quite common in my benthic samples. Let me know how could I prepare a slide and I may send it to you. Would it be enough if I sent them in an eppendorf tube in 70% ethanol? ID is correct, nice photo. Thank you!
