my dad works as a pathologist on the nation health service, and as such, steals me my slides and cover slips, and recently, a nice collection of stains :D

in a tun they are pretty darn amazing things. bit boring to look at, but great fun to try and destroy (which is allmsot imposible)

oooh, thats interesting to know, thanks Tom.

In that case I found an archaeic one the other day :D it was very dark brown indeed, and I didnt get my normally wonderful colour show with a darkfeild condenser either.

yeah, I have found them in lichen too, they have turned up in the middle of the ocean, a few living on a floatingbit of algea for example, they are extremphiles to the max!

these can grow quite large, I have seen one at least 25mm long :O

I was soaking a big clump of moss in a tray of pond water, and just diving in with my hands when AHHHH a large one of those swam out from under the moss, Im nto a squeamish guy but this made me poop myself.

rudolph the red eyed cyclops is currently on route to the north pole... at a speed of 20 um/s , he is predicted to get there in 2034 :D
