Your first thought is correct, the slider and condenser are not compatible. Your condenser has prisms in a 90 degree(from front) orientation, so it needs a combining prism at 90 degrees. Correct again, Mike. The reason thick films turn to a homogeneous pink 'mush' in white light is due to the higher order of interference.
