Re: SZH-10 adapter
You don't need anything from lmscope if you already have the 2.5x eyepiece. All you need is to mechanically place your camera over that lens. The origibal solution from Olympus was the photomicro L adapter, but it is an expensive collectible now. Fortunately there are other solutions as well as thi...

Re: A Look Inside A Motorized Newport Stage
Thanks for documenting this. Cool to see inside this linear stage. Looks like a well-made stage. Judging from documentation of the Newport CTS70 , your predecessor may have good accuracy (one micron guaranteed, 0.3 microns suggested as typical) over nice range (70mm). The minimum increment of movem...

Re: Problem with knobs on Diaphot TMD
. . . I see a couple of these fiendish retainer type screws (with two holes), hope you have a spanner wrench to loosen them. I would personally ask the seller for a partial refund if it was described so inadequately. These nuts are not meant to be removed and are most likely epoxied in place. They'...

Re: Problem with knobs on Diaphot TMD
. . . I saw that the photo mask and bi / photo and cinema / photo levers are stuck. Can it be easily fixed? It's surprising to me that the focus controls work and these controls don't. I feel a little awkward at mentioning this. Maybe it's a translation issue, but I hope you realize that these are ...

I'm pretty sure I've seen both Narishige and Leitz / Leica micromanipulator actuators discussed here.

Re: Fern spore and stomata in auto-fluorescence
They look like the sporangia from the Pyrrosia lingua ( tongue fern is one common name ), I have in my yard. Are the sporangia grouped in random clusters or organized in lines? The Pyrrosia lingua clusters will be random. The bands on these look like they've just split.

You can't count on it, though you may find some are OK for home / hobby use. I just tried threading 3 C mount plastic plugs, from 2 different makers, into 3 female M25x0.75 adapters. Of all the combinations; 2 of the plastic plugs would screw into one of the 3 female adapters about 1/2 to 3/4 turn. ...

You wouldn't see the polarizing effect in the eyepieces and that, to me, makes it an odd place for a polarizer.ChrisR wrote:B would be for a polariser (analyser), surely, but it looks like it may be off something else!
mbb, does anything within the barrel move up and down when the lever is rotated?

Re: Optiphot: Can't attach lamphouse to epi illuminator
. . . Model names I've seen include Optiphot, Optiphot 2, Optiphot 66, Optiphot 100S, 150, 200, 300, Optiphot Biological, and Optiphot Pol. You can eliminate most of these by stage size or shape. For instance the Optiphot 66 has a stage with 6" x 6" of xy travel and the Optiphot 200 has 200 x 200mm...

If I understand the manual correctly the M42x0.75 lens mount is a separate piece, and can be replaced by f.i. a C mount. Perhaps this user replaceable mount system is the reason for the back focus imprecision (listed as either 17-17.5mm or "about 18mm"). In the side view of the flange the only mean...

Re: Copper Nickel Gold balls
The reason for my post is that I found in a box a small vial marked Copper Nickel Gold, with about 1/4" deep of very small metal balls. They are clearly gold, but must be Cu/Ni alloy based on the sticker. Does anyone know what these might be used for? I think they are ~10um in diameter but that's o...

Re: Puzzling out eBay ad for Olympus laser + halogen microsc
. . . The equipment shown in the pictures consists of an LG-PS2 laser with a thinner light guide, apparently ending in a connector for an AX/BX series illuminator port, and a FV5-TD halogen illuminator with a thicker double light guide, the ends of which are not visible in any picture. You have the...
