Re: Scheduled upgrade of the forum software

Phrased more bluntly, it's to avoid "disaster by obsolescence". (Shock of the day: Google finds no prior use of that phrase!) Better buy that domain then, sit on it for 5 years, then sell it to a person who wrote a book about "disaster by obsolescence" claiming to have invented the phrase  The...

Hello Steven, I use it for general retouching and raster editing these days. All the functionality that I tend to use is there. could please give me some examples of the retouching? Any special feature better than appropriate one in the PS or GIMP ? BR, ADi For cloning, healing, and inpainting all ...

Re: Water drops on hydrophobic mold surface

Reading a little about this phenomenon, I was also surprised to learn that the water repellency is apparently due to specialized proteins, not lipids. See the discussion of "hydrophobins" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrophobin . I learned something new. When I first saw the image I immediatel...

I couple of years ago I tried on an Acer gaming laptop that worked well with Zerene Stacker. The stacking using Affinity was painfully slow. I ran a bunch of tests with it on macOS some time ago and it is pretty close to the same stack time as zerene for me. I recall that when the feature was in be...

Interesting project, and given the timing. Yesterday a new raspberry pi camera module was released, https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-high-quality-camera/ and product specs https://static.raspberrypi.org/files/product-briefs/Raspberry_Pi_HQ_Camera_Product_Brief.pdf From what I gather...

You might consider an Olympus which does in camera focus stacking. I don't know if Canon has this feature. p.s. Renting a camera and testing various lens would be beneficial. I have an m6 mii, and it has focus bracketing, I am pretty sure the 90d does as well. Focus bracketing on it works well IMO,...

Re: Advice please: High NA air objective with small WD

I've been offered an apo, high NA, air objective designed for no cover slip, that has a tiny working distance of 1.3mm. This objective has a wide front end that will make it nearly impossible to shine reflected light onto the subject. I dont have any comments on on an axial solution, but I have use...

Stephen, according to my re-count just now, you are #13 on the NaNEncountered list. I started to send you the award for "Unlucky Number on an Unlucky List", but alas, it turned out that the award had been severely damaged in storage due to an unfortunate sequence of events far too long to recount h...

When posting last night I complete forgot that I received an error during the stack. I forgot about it because the stack appeared to finish and there was quite a bit of time between the error popping up and me writing the post  The error is of course some what important. 3677.136: Alignment fa...

I redid the stack I posted earlier in this thread with out rotation enabled after Rik's comment and there was some pretty bad streaking on the border, and some of the streaking crept into the "usable" parts of the image, compared to with rotation on. The streaking entering the detailed area is from ...

BTW, I notice in your example that you're getting a significant amount of rotation, judging from the angle of the edge streaks themselves, at lower right. If your rig prevents rotation mechanically, as most high mag setups do, then you should remove the checkmark on Rotate. If this is also high mag...

I just ran a deep stack as a test, and the alignment is slightly different between the one with with and without the dust mask. It was a very deep stack(600 images) with a slight misalignment of the stacking axis, as seen by the streaks. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/1945_dusty_1.jpg...

I have a new question: Does the infill operation only have to happen once if you are doing stereo/rocking images, or will the infill operation take place for each new image for the stereo/rocking set?

it can be pretty hard to see dust spots in out of focus areas of an image, but once it is in focus the spot becomes very visible. Hhmm... In my experience it's the reverse: isolated spots are easier to see in out-of-focus images and become difficult to see when they overlay focused detail. To be cl...

I am planning on experimenting with this tonight, but I have an initial question. How does zerene handle the mask compared to other frames that are getting aligned? Is the mask aligned to the first image, or last image, or something else? Also, it can be pretty hard to see dust spots in out of focus...
