Hi Harry, I'm not far off from beginner status as well, though I've had an almost 2 yr break after giving it a go for around a yr. See, everyone here is so helpful after time, just be patient, wait for the weekends in particular! Not that I"m a real expert yet, but practice and many mistakes is the ...

Beautiful colours Charlie, glad to see you are still the master and inspiration around here. Are these single images with flash? The thought of stacking such fast moving critters scares me! I'll be going near our local beach soon, hope to be taking plenty of live shots soon of our Aussie beach marve...

Thanks Rogelio, I'm already enjoying the editing process again. Here's the first image, but sharpened considerably in photoshop, as well as a second 10 times image with 17 frames carefully edited within Zerene to remove reflections. I now see why Charlie uses those golf balls to minimise those! It's...

And here is my first pic for almost 2 yrs. only a first 'lazy' attempt but I'm very happy with it. Used a new remote shutter release, eBay is so handy. 27 images with Zerene, but I didn't edit any of them for focus fine tuning. Externally lit via Ikea, an Autumn leaf superglued to mount. 2 power obj...

i'm back, for now
Hi Everyone, remember me? I've had a rather long absence, due to illness (anxiety, work-related). I just couldn't keep up my learnings with this hobby, as anxiety/depression and its symptoms don't combine well with the incredibly exacting discipline of this hobby! After a large break, I'm ready to t...

Kookaburra up very close
Just taken with my awful iPhone 3GS (can't wait for the 4s to be delivered!) on a stroll near work. I've never been this close to one of our country's most beautiful birds. He was in heaven searching for grubs in our damp soil in our city's gardens. I'll have to bring the SLR to work from now on! ht...

Spring Leaf
Spring has sprung in Oz, a lovely time. Weather oh so unpredictable in Melb., as usual... Per Rik's tips, I've re-watched the Zerene instructional videos and using Rik's suggestion, I found this 50 pic stack editing much easier (although it's easier than the louse claw, not quite as deep). I process...

Thanks for looking and the reply Charlie. Yes, I was pleased that the stack was fairly stable, it proved that by not touching the camera at all, vibes are minimized. Most of the shots captured the right focus points, but I did notice the odd hair that had missing focus overlaps. But was chuffed that...
