Re: Loss of Robert OToole

I am very, very sorry to hear of Robert's passing. I admired his encyclopedic knowledge about a wide array of often obscure lenses, his constant curiosity and disciplined testing, and the generosity with which he shared his clearly presented results. I also enjoyed the insights (and humor) that he s...

Re: Olympus U TLU tube lens vs SWTR-2 Superwide Head

For Peter and anyone else who wanted to incorporate the SWTLU-C tube lens into a Thorlabs SM2 system, RafCamera offers an M41x0.5♀ to SM2♂ adapter, although I have no idea what issues there may be with shipping at this time.

Re: Pushing down the PN105 and Scanner Nikkor to a FOV of 100mm

Thanks for sharing your brilliant discovery about exploiting the entire image field of the PN105 (if only d'Abrera had used this lens and technique!). I also like the idea of mounting this lens inside the camera, supported by the lensboard. You are probably already aware of it, but you can also use ...

Re: Qioptiq LINOS d.fine HR-M 2.8/80 0.2x Lens Test Results

Somewhat tangential to the original topic, but I have used the 35mm target slides offered at the site below to inexpensively provide a qualitative assessment of lenses intended for slide duplication.

Mitutoyo M Plan Apo HR 5x

This could possibly be a very good deal for someone. I've dealt with dy-global before, and always had satisfactory transactions in the past.

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO HR 5X 0.21 Test Results

If you're talking about half-pixel shift then yes, greatly diminished aliasing. That sort of shifting does not change the MTF curves as computed here, but it does double the sampling frequency so it doubles the Nyquist limit. It also reduces sampling variability by putting 4 samples per cycle at wh...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO HR 5X 0.21 Test Results

The one downside to the NA 0.21 objective is that it provides a lot more opportunity for aliasing, if the subject contains fine detail that resolves above the Nyquist limit of the sensor. The beauty of Nikon's rule is that it guarantees no aliasing, because it matches the cutoff frequency of the ob...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO HR 5X 0.21 Test Results

Another comparison for those who (like me) trust their eyes more than graphs and charts. Mitty 10 vs Mitty 7.5 @5X on sensor. 100% crops. Again, the higher NA objective shows clear advantage. I doubt the 5X HR would do much better than the 7.5X @5X, but it would be nice to see a comparison. - Macre...

Can I borrow this for my page, with credit of course? :D

Best,
You can definitely borrow it, but the credit should go to Mitutoyo! :)

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO HR 5X 0.21 Test Results

Another strange one? A friend checked with Mitutoyo once for me, he is in the industry, and he said that the HR models are only made to order, and take 3 to 6 weeks once ordered, at least that is what he contact said. That seems strange to me. Best, Robert Well, your friend appears to be right (at ...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan APO HR 5X 0.21 Test Results

Hello Robert,

Thank you for conducting and publishing these clear and comprehensive tests. The performance of the Raynox DCR-150 with the Mitutoyo HR 5x is especially impressive! :)
