After inspecting this sample and other pieces of the same crystal, I found round half-holes that most likely resulted from laser impact—their diameter roughly matched the laser specifications normally used for this purpose.

Re: Canon M6 MKII data transfer
Nicely done, and very interesting! I confess that I'm not sure I understand the larger picture. For studio work I'm used to running my camera on corded power supply, either recording to in-camera SD card or tethered transfer over USB to my computer. My cameras have their SD slots on the side, so it...

Not the greatest, but works Link to the parts 1.Attach the SD adapter casing with the short flathead 1/4-20 screw to the camera. 2.Slide in the adapter cable. 3.Slide in the tab part on the cable. 4.Insert the SD side into the camera. 5.Slide on the tab part on the back side of the SD insert. 6.Inse...

17. Canon M6 MK2 SD Card Extension Cable Adapter
17. Canon M6 MK2 SD Card Extension Cable Adapter The open door tab on the Canon M6 Mark II enables camera power when the door is open, allowing the use of an SD card extension for focus stacking or time-lapse photography. Insert a metal pin into the small opening at the base of the tab—either by glu...

Re: A Riddle with the Pollen
That's a nice collection of crystals! Is the riddle to guess what they are? Thanks Rik, yes ! Another technique that's often used is to put a contrasting dot above each image of the pair, again typically at the same depth as the front of the specimen. Was there a post about this technique? I must h...

...there's a microswitch that gets pushed by a third tab that engages at the same time the two mechanical locking tabs engage. ... Thanks, Rik ! Yes, there is a switch, and it looks like it's dual-action—you have to press it slightly and move that tiny plastic flag to the left. tab 1.jpg It looks v...

Re: A Riddle with the Pollen
Just a bit of constructive criticism; I think the white frame is problematic because it makes proper eye 'alignment' very difficult so forming a 3d image takes a lot of effort. Without the frame it's far easier und looks better (at least to me) in 3d. Thanks for the feedback! I hear you on the whit...

A Riddle with the Pollen
Mitutoyo 10x QV, Microstar IV TL, 313 photos, DMap/Pmax, Canon M6 MK2, uncropped. Pollen is unrelated to the riddle; it ended up in the sample by accident when I placed it on the dissecting microscope, which I had previously used to inspect pollen. It added a nice accent to the photo, so I decided t...

Re: Canon M6 MKII data transfer
Have you tried using a 3/5 meter USB-C cable, connected to a PC in another part of the room, even on a stool (as long as it doesn't slip... Yes, I done that previously with my Nikon D7200 and Sony A6300 (before SD extension cable). you can use an external power supply with a dummy LP-E6 battery tha...

Canon M6 MKII data transfer
I'm using a Canon M6 MKII for stacking, and I'd like to know if there's a convenient way to quickly transfer files to the computer without removing the SD card from the camera or using slow remote transfer software. Connecting a laptop to the camera and capturing photos directly to it is also not an...

Re: Microphot 10x DIC
good question in that case, possibly a 10x prism somewhere out there? Maybe swap out the ph1 with an 10x from or adapt optiphot/labophot DIC condenser? Yes, had exactly the same idea. Interesting, would this DIC slider work with the normal condenser (with the DIY slider slot), instead of the Univer...

Re: Microphot 10x DIC
I have one, I can check...I want to say yes, 10x DIC effect is ok w 20x condenser turret prism. Even with an E plan, and plan 10x I forgot to mention that I already have this setup, but there is a low DIC effect at 10x magnification. Can I achieve a normal DIC effect at 10x, and what is required to...

Re: "Last Time Buy" email from Chinese eBay seller
I haven't bought it yet (after tariffs). I had a pretty lengthy conversation with the AliExpress seller about 10 days ago (I'm not a first-time buyer from them—it was a surprise for him too). The page showed a 404 error on PC, while the phone app said the item couldn't be shipped to my country. They ...
