Alright, sorry for the late update but I've been a bit busy  All in all..... it was a major success! A small section of the class didn't even understand DOF so explaining the technical stuff to them was a lost cause, but a few students understood it all so I consider that part a success :) Las...

Thanks everyone for the kind words :) I am definitely writing notes/an outline for myself to work off of. I've got a rough idea what im going to do, but I plan on just going with the flow for the most part. Im bringing my whole stacking rig for the most part in addition to the standard L bracket/fla...

I was bothered by a number of elements in that fellow's tirade. Among them, that he referred to Zerene Stacker as a $300 program. Sure, it's $290 for professional use, but I'll bet the great majority of users are paying $40 (students) or $90 (non-pros). --Chris From another perspective, CS5 costs W...

Thanks Ab. This looks great. I'm sorry to hear about the mantis's health problem, but it sounds like you didn't do anything to cause those. Using a single background image to paint over the artifact lines is a standard way of recovering from slight misalignment. I gather you used Gimp to do that, an...

I had a quick play with a plastic cap I found, the smaller diameter of which shoves onto the end of an imperial micrometer. One revolution is 25 thou, which is 635 microns. The circumference of the larger part of the cap is 90mm So 1mm = 7 microns (635/90) So in Photoshop I made the scale with 0.7m...

First play with a 10x objective
Well I have been given a chance to play with a 10x objective, so here's the first non-test shot I've done with it :) First and foremost I must say, wow definitely a whole new world has been opened up and wow a whole new set of problems! my tripod based setup as anticipated was not capable of ...
