. . . Jim Kasson, a very very accomplished and energetic guy (up there in the league with Rik), just posted his conclusion from months of using the Sony A7r (definitely fully AA-less) and D800e side-by-side on the same subjects that he sees no difference whatever in resolution. See: http://www.dpre...

As a big fan of old sci-fi movies, I agree with Johan that the last one might be a candidate for a hanger on the Wall. If it was my own picture I probably had brightened it up a little bit and give it a extra push with photoshop before printing.

Grats, to a very well done picture!

Re: Microscope objectives on an DSLR

Hi there people.. I see a lot of people use microscope objectives on an DSLR. I think the distance to the specimen will be short. Is there any website or a table that can give me the magnification and distance to the specimen ? Like what magnification will I obtain with i.e 4x objective ? And what ...

Re: Using microscope objective for macro imaging

[Posting moved to here from Beginners Micro Forum] Hello: I'm thinking of using microscope objectives for macrophotography. Since I'll be using a full-frame DSLR I understand it's preferable to use an infinity-corrected objective to fully cover the frame. My plan is to use a 180mm camera lens as th...

Re: Wetzlar 10X HL infinity

Having seen some of the superb images posted using a microscope objective fitted on the end of a telephoto lens I am thinking of building a setup to have a go. Does anyone know if a Leitz Wetzlar industrial microscope Lens HL 10x/0.20 infinity would be any good for this application? Any info would ...

Is this issue solved?

I may have some 25mm vails laying around, the best fit are for the CFI LU plans.

They also works ok for the cfi plan achromat 10x na 0.25 (mrl00102), but it's a close fit.

Regarding sources, I recently received a positive report of purchasing a 10X Nikon CFI60 objective (MRL00102) through http://www.seoenterprises.com/shop/product.php?productid=16268&cat=257&page=1 . I have no personal experience with SEO Enterprises, but the person who wrote to me reported that "I g...

I just fall in with mr Craig Gerard here: This is a very, very good picture! .....some thoughts about lighting, this is a subject that is diffucult to handle in terms of illumination, to much light and you risk to blow out the highlights. An even and well illuminated image. Very well done! I don't k...

To go "better" and to 5x, the objectives get more expensive, such as the Mitutoyo apo 5x NA 0.15 (working distance, from memory about 30mm) Memory failure :o The correct working distance for the 5X Mitutoyo M Plan Apo is 34mm and the na is 0.14 not 0.15. I agree about the Mitutoyo m plan apo 5X na ...

I just like to validate that those Mitutoyo M26 vails from Ebay seller ten993046 are as good as the original included Mitutoyo m plan ones. The only difference are that they are black instead of grey and missing the Mitutoyo logo.

Jody, Nice stack! I happen to like the colored background. I don't understand Michael's concern about f/2.8. For me, at 5X, f/2.8 is the sharpest setting for my MP-E. This gives an effective aperture about f/16.8, just about ideal for the 1D Mark III's full frame sensor. --Rik I also like the color...

I'm struggling to see exactly what you mean. :? In a high-pixel output image, you'd only use the reduced NA parts where it's beneficial. If you used a lower magnification lower NA objective for a web image, and if LoCA reared its head, it might be possible to use PS Blending Modes to combine images...

They are ok and quite handy and could be used in varying situations. Ikea has now stated the Color Temperature to 2700 Kelvin. I think the Color Temperature of the Jansjö's have changed over time. Personally a like to try to raise the Color Temperature in my studio setup lighting. I have looked for ...

Um, no, I haven't! Why should reducing the NA lead to CA? I can see it happening due to the iris being in the "wrong" place, perhaps, but not as a result of swapping objectives. It could mean hand-retouching rather than letting the stacker combine images. Longitudinal chromatic aberration. This abe...
