Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE

Thanks for all these suggestions. I am thinking that focusing the rear standard (which I also prefer to do with my 5x7 large format camera) should have the advantage of keeping the front of lens to subject constant and should be better for focus stacking. ... If you decide to focus with rear standa...

About the corner softness: How are you ensuring that you film is flat?
I guess a seconday question is if all 4 corners have issues?

Re: Safe objective cleaning solution -- so much conflicting info online?

Another option (there are so many) is Rodico. I use it on my sensor to pick up dust particles without leaving residue. I've only recently started doing this so haven't incorporated it into my lens cleaning protocol, but I may give it a try as second cleaner (after a duster blow) to pick up dust and ...

Re: EL Nikkor+Fujifilm GFX

I've been impressed by some of the wide angle enlarger lenses out there. They are far from perfect, but should immediately give you a better fit at lower magnifications on your big sensor. My favorite is the Schneider WA Componon 80/4 (80WAC), but I've had good results from the 60WAC as well. I've u...

Re: SF Bay Area Electronics Swap

The first Electronics Swap of 2024 happened yesterday. The time change made it a bit more interesting at the beginning, since it started at 6AM PDT. No one seemed to miss the change, as there were quite a few sellers already when I got there at 6:15, but it was dark until after 7, so lots of peeking...

Don‘t use any disposable cotton swabs (e.g., Q-Tip®) instead of the cotton or ITW Texwipe Clean Tips® swabs recommended herein, as the former are not free from contaminations. ... btw, I'm kinda surprised that ROR contains Ammonia and would be worried after the Zeiss warning. I use a lot of ...

Sounds like you guys are all chemists!

Edited to add: I stick with water (usually breath condensation) and pure Isopropyl alcohol.

Re: Safe objective cleaning solution -- so much conflicting info online?

I'm not sure if the Zeiss doc or others address this, but a really clean lens surface has the unusual quality that when rubbed with a swab or cloth or whatever, it has a feeling of friction. Someone may know the technical term or description of this, and please let me know if you do. This effect is ...

Re: What features and comforts would your hypothetical dream camera system have, based on your needs?

I know there are liquid lenses, but are there liquid filters? A filter that could continuously adjust across the visible range (and beyond) would allow a monochromatic sensor to be exposed at any wavelength. That would be cool.

Maybe piezoelectric?

Re: What features and comforts would your hypothetical dream camera system have, based on your needs?

I'd like to have the following camera: 40x40mm sensor. This allows use of the many high quality lenses with 62mm image circles out to the corners. I want the sensor to be square since all my published images are square. I do stack and stitch now to end up with essentially a 36mmx36mm sensor, but it ...

Hello, There are different add on lenses for cell phones to make macro world vision possible. I wonder - instead of buying a pre-built attachment, my I use quality lens to get even better result? Re: Lens with fungus and effect on image quality

After f/16 I see the dirt on the sensor... but no hint of any of the strange shapes on the glass... You will never see the shapes on the glass, because the lens surfaces will never be in focus enough to see them. This is why you can have scratches, chips, etc on a lens and they will never show up a...

Re: Lens with fungus and effect on image quality

I have been thinking about using a burning laser (like the kind used to engrave stuff) to burn off the fungus from internal elements. I've tried it a little bit but it is tricky since reflective surfaces on the lenses can send the laser into your eyes, burning off your retina instead of the fungus....

Re: Lens with fungus and effect on image quality

I've compared a few lenses with mild fungus to their pristine counterparts, and saw no effect. Never tested anything with as much as the one shown above though. Also have purchased a few lenses that had mild surface fungus, and found it usually cleans off quite easily just with moisture from breathi...

Re: Mitutoyo 10x e 5x e Sony A7rV

It doesn't take huge misalignment of the front standard to mess things up. 1 degree will produce a 3.5mm shift on 200mm extension. You could try tweaking the bellows a bit to see if you can improve/degrade the decentering. Even on fairly stiff bellows it's possible to move 1 degree without doing dam...
