I'm Back

After a long absence, I'm back at it. In case you don't remember me, I'm the one that asks all the PITA questions. :P

Oooops

I had something happen tonight that shook me up a bit. I had prepared a slide from my hay infusion, and just placed it in the scope. I found a critter and was watching it when I got called to dinner. I went and ate, then returned to the waterdrop on the slide. I guess the slide dried out a little an...

Both.... I just don't know which to get first. The wife likes to see things she can recognize, rather than the biological stuff. I like it all, and will do it all, eventually. Just indecisive as to which one first. I'm thinking the scope, because the bad weather is coming and I can sit indoors with ...

Microscope or Macro Lens?

Been looking at getting either a stereo scope or a macro lens.

The lens I was looking at is: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses ... avigator=5

The scope would be either a Lomo or a Chinese Zoom Trinocular.

Any opinions? Anyone use the aforementioned lens?

I'm going to get one of these Seperatory Funnel Sets soon:

You allow the water to sit for a while, then siphon from the bottom. Will give you a concentrated solution.

Iwas leaning toward the Lepadella also. It was really facinating watching these guys swim. They kinda spiraled through the water. Really quite beautiful to watch. There was many of them and some other species as well. Hay Infusions are worth the effort for sure. I just got some hay from our building...

Hay Infusion Critters

There are two different species in the photo. The lower left critter appears to be dead, it didn't move. The upper one was flitting all about and was hard to photograph.

Thanks Dave. I use latex gloves, even when I use it in the tanks. Malachite green can be toxic in certain circumstances and possibly tumor forming Pegleg so be careful and wash your hands well after touching it before eating. Staining

I'm just starting out, so don't laugh too hard. I want to try staining, but don't have any. Or so I thought. I read that fish ick medicine contains malachite green, a stain. Soooooooo, I went to my fish tank and took a bottle out of my fish kit. I cut some apple on my microtome, placed the sections ...
