On the one on the right I've machined off the rearmost 5mm using a handheld dremel tool. I took enough so that the adapter would align with the front edge of the indentation rather than the cut surface (mainly in case the machined surface would be slightly uneven, which it wasn't)
I was thinking about doing a very similar thing only mounting it so the lens sticks out the back of the adaptor. The Olympus 4/3rds mount will allow a lens to protrude into the body about 5mm without interfering with the mirror. With another 10mm removed from the lens, a minimum extension of 24mm could be achieved.

What's the minimum extension you can achieve with your adaptor? How big is the image circle? And of course what's the IQ at minimum extension?

A Variable Focusing Adapter using
Gutted Auto Tele Plus. Minolta Auto Tele Plus2X

I am delighted on the way the gutted Minolta Auto Tele plus is going, all I have to do now is rig up a dial and an indicator post or hand and paint it matte black in front., have measured the focus travel on the screw.
One Minute of Turn ie 1/60 of dial gives 0.01 mm at a rough calculation Tested over 10 turns Total Travel for ten revolutions of Lens 6.30 mm

The Easy Way
Take a Minolta Microscope Adapter

Mine turned up a couple of days ago, I have not had time to consider mounting yet so thanks all for the ideas! :)

Amazing! I did the exact same thing two days ago with a Yashica (old M42 mount) microscope adapter. (And I've got a Contax/Yashica microscope adapter with the same top piece as well). Must be one of those pieces that a wide variety of brands picked up from the same manufacturer and put their name on it.

My JML has just arrived. It has the alignment scratch (as others have noted) and also a small, 1mm scratch on the front coating :(

Re-reading this thread with interest, therefore.

A friend has constructed a nice mount for me, maybe you could use that too Chris!?

Klaus,

Could we see an image of the custom mount/adapter?

Now completed with dial and indicating made by extending “the JML Scribe Scratch” along the optic threaded tube

Did you need to mill down the lens or open up the ID of the microscope adapter ?

Klaus, I would be interested to see your adapter and also to hear your thoughts on the lens once you have tried it out.

Sure, of course I will Chris and will also make a comparison with the JML 34mm (with Iris) I have here. I hope that mount also fits that one.

Btw. I have just heard that "the supplier" of that lens only has 30 left and that they are going very fast!!

Klaus, are there more now available in Europe? As far as I know, in the US, the vendor sold-out on the first series of 103 lenses on 12 May. He then listed an additional 17 parts which all sold quickly ending on 19 May. See the closed listing HERE. As I say, soon after Charles and John (morfa) posted their stunning images, the remaining lenses suddenly developed a high vapor pressure and evaporated into the ‘ether’.
I do seem to remember the vendor had initially listed more than 17 on the second series, which makes me wonder if he decided to reserve some based either on the sudden high rate of sales---or, he found this forum!!!

If so…hi mister vendor!

If he did reserve some, I would not be surprised to see them listed at some later time, for a higher price.

BTW, it looks like the optical elements extend some way beyond the existing Waterhouse stop. So, I had the idea to open the lens capsule on one of my five copies to try to install a larger stop, to perhaps achieve f/2.8 or f/2 which might improve the resolution at higher magnifications. Unfortunately try as I might, I simply could not turn the retaining ring using an optical spanner wrench. I only attempted this using hand pressure while holding the lens in my hand. But, I applied quite a bit of force on the ring of three lenses, and they would not budge. I think they must have some type of strong Loctite or glue on the threads. As soon as I’ve tested all five lenses, I might have to risk one by heating the case to see if I can loosen the threads.

I would also like to know your opinion of this lens when you have had a look.

Regards,
Bob
