Olympus CH-2

Post by Craig Gerard »

I've just taken delivery of an Olympus CH-2. It has been well maintained and serviced regularly. It's a beauitful thing!

I know it is not a BH or BH2; but I am impressed with what I'm seeing.

It is a binocular and I would like to put a trinocular head on it, then look at the various relay lenses, and associated requirements; etc, etc.....

Initially, are there any particular requirements I need to consider with regard to a trinocular outfit for the CH-2?

Learning curve ahead; but with what I am seeing it will be more than worth it.

Craig,

If you do not already have them, there are a few PDF's of Olympus material that will be of interest to you. They can be found here:

Thanks for the link Charlie.

Do the BH/BH2 and CH/CH2 have the same dovetail? Would a BH2 trinocular head fit the CH2?

Just thought I'd ask whilst researching myself.

Craig,

Yes, the older trinocular head (BH-TR45) and the more recent one for the BH2 series (BH2-TR30) use the same dovetail mount. (The older FH series heads mount differently). The BH-TR45 (at least all the ones I've seen) have a two position slider for directing the light... 100/0 and 20/80 ( percentage to eyepieces/camera). The BH2-TR30 has three positions 100/0, 20/80, and 0/100.

The CH2 came supplied with the following objectives.

E A10 160/- NA: 0.25
A 20 160/0.17 NA: 0.40
E A40 160/0.17 NA: 0.65

Eyepieces are Olympus CWHK 10/18L.

If I was looking to upgrade the objectives (finite 160 tube length) which ones should be considered; DPlan or SPlan?
