a sessile marine ciliate

Post by Franz Neidl »

Hallo friends!
I am very happy to participate again - after two months - in the duscussions of the forum. I had some problems with the Internet connection.

I show you a sessile marine ciliate. Is this a Vorticella or a Zoothamnium (or an other species)? One ciliate was - without the stalk - 55µm long.

Thank you for your help
Franz

Hello Franz,
Very nice work indeed, you got your DIC system working very well. What make is this, what objectives are you using?

I'm no specilaist in this, but differentiation between Vorticella and Zoothamnion is on the stalk (branching), so this would be family Zoothamniidae.

Best wishes, René.
