Hi pond life fans,
just by coincidence I'm observing a hay infusion too. Apart from the occasional amoeba it contains lots of cryptomonades of the Chilomonas paramecium group and likewise Paramecium caudatum.
Chilomonas, 400x, greenfilter, coolpix 990
Paramecium caudatum, 400x, Nomarski filter, Coolpix 990
Looks like a shark, doesn't it?

Some pretty nice shots there Bernhard, it has been along time since I have observed C. paramecium. I used to find them all the time, as a matter of fact I do not believe I ever had a culture that did not have a swarm of these organisms. _________________ Ken Ramos

| Yup... it always seems that when you have one Paramecium caudatum, there are a whole lot of them. I've never done a hay "infusion"... should give it a try now that my collected samples have stopped producing much of interest. Good to see a couple new pictures from you Bernhard... keep them coming! |
