I'm pretty sure this is some kind of fruit fly, I found it on one of the sunflowers in our garden, it appeared to be laying eggs on there but I could have been mistaken about that!

I think those bits near the top of the wing are butterfly/moth scales from another subject, probably contaminated in the collecting pot...

Lovely shots Laurie! Definitely a fruit fly (Tephritidae), looks to be a species of Chaetorellia, probably jaceae.
