I gather that this is a perfectly ordinary set of equipment for a male mosquito. But apparently I haven't looked very close at a male mosquito before, because when I found this critter in my windowsill, my first reaction was "What the ... is that?!"

Field width 3.7 mm for the first image.

Technical: Canon 300D camera, Olympus 38 mm f/2.8 bellows lens at f/4, about 4.7X on sensor. Dual fiber optic illumination with ping-pong ball diffuser. 68 frames at 0.001" focus step, Zerene Stacker DMap and PMax combination.
