grahame, welcome aboard! :D

I'm sure one of our members from your area can answer your question better than I could.

In the meantime, I'll move your post over into the Equipment forum. We like to keep the image galleries reserved for pictures.

Grahame,

The filter thread on the earlier version EL-Nikkor 5.6/80mm is 34.5mm.

34.5mm step rings are a tricky item to locate.

Are you using the lens with a bellows or extension rings?

Grahame,

Do you have any other lenses on-hand that you might consider using with the bellows?

Based on your initial thread measurements; I'm assuming the EL-Nikkor 5.6/80mm you have is the original version (chrome at base)?

A 34.5mm step ring to suit the EL-Nikkor 5.6/80mm (original design) is not an off-the-shelf item.

The 2.8/50mm EL-Nikkor, both the original design and the later 'N' version, both have a filter thread that will accept a 40.5mm step ring.

A 40.5mm (male) to 52mm (female) step ring will interface perfectly with the BR2.

40.5 to 52mm step rings are readily available.

I'm just wondering what other options you may have on-hand at the moment?

The old EL Nikkor filter thread is 34.5mm (x 0.5) and adapter rings are indeed hard to find.
It probably has to be a two-step process, e.g from 34.5 to 37 mm and from 37 to 52mm (or whatever size your bellows need).
The 34.5mm has a thread of 0.5 mm, all others are 0.75.

Here is a good source for 34.5mm to 37mm (also good "special" price). I got two from them (male 34.5x0.5 to female 37x0.75 !).
http://www.camerafilters.com/pages/specialrings.aspx

Stepup rings from 37mm to a zillion other sizes can easily be found on ebay.

Good luck

NB: the filter size for the new 'N' El Nikkor lenses are 40.5 x 0.5 mm and adapters for this filter size to e.g. 52 x 0.75 mm are easily found on ebay.

Jan,

Thanks for the info and the link. :)

So that's where all the 'tricky' step rings have been hiding

My pleasure. At the end of last year I stumbled onto this address after looking for those rings for about two years. patience, patience, . . . .

Grahame
Sounds very famliar.
I started out with macrophotography in the 70's.
Stopped at the end of the 80's and after retirement in 2004 picked up photography again.
I'm now working (more like crawling) up my way again to high level photomacrography. Lots of information on this site. Keep searching.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Many thanks from me too, for that link to those special filter rings, Jan!

I think with that 37mm (Male) to 29.5mm (Female) step down ring they are offering, I will find a way of mounting my shutter #0 lens. :D

Hallo Betty,

I find a lot of great ideas on this site.
For instance your referral to the d-c-fix black velour light trapping material came in handy. :D
Glad I can return the service. Once your setup is ready please post some pictures.
