Drosophila antenna

Post by NikonUser »

Rik was wondering about the antennae structure of these flies
HERE.
I just happened to have a photo of an antenna. In many species it has few rays and usually ends in a V.
Image

Taken a while back and I forget the camera setup (but could probably find it).

Looks very similar to my Fruit Fly Portrait.

Does this structure narrow down to just genus Drosophila, or some larger group?

This type of arista seems to be characteristic of the Family: Drosophilidae; that is, if a small fly has this this pattern it is probably in the family.
But some Drosophilids have different antennae.
There are so many flies that it's dangerous to state that no other fly family has a dorsal arista identical to this.
Bottom line: I don't know the answer.
